The tv network VICE is currently running a series on the evolution of QAnon. Hell, I couldn’t even spell it and had no idea who or what QAnon even was until one of my Trumpie family members started posting the “Q” logo on their Facebook page. And oddly enough, when I asked my sister about this (my sister also a huge Trumpie) and quite out of character she snapped back WHERE DID YOU HEAR OF THAT, which was very weird in itself. I felt like I stumbled upon some secret club. Or, treaded upon something I’d better just forget about for my own good. One thing is obvious, this QAnon thing is at the core of all the weirdness going on within America and American politics today. This was and still is a major part of the Trump administration, of republicans in congress, of the Michael Flynn odyssey, and of the violence that occurred on January 6th. They call it the rabbit hole, referring to the way it consumes people. Some kind of psychological operations by the military upon the American people which would explain Michael Flynn’s involvement and why Donald Trump pardoned Flynn. Personally, I think QAnon consists of a lot of weak minded individuals who are searching for an excuse to blame society for the failures within their own life. A people of great imperfections unwilling to accept responsibility and thus everyone else is to blame. I know that absolutely applies within my own Trumpie family i.e. those loyal to Trump.

I keep wondering why the world seems to have gone mad. I only know three people who seem to be buying into this stuff (from they conspiracy-stuff they've come out with I suspect they have gone down that Qanaon rabbit-hole, but I've deliberately not discussed it with them much), and all three of them have diagnosed mental-health issues. I mean, your experience is your experience, but what I've seen makes me reluctant to blame believers for being that way.

I also find it hard to put it down entirely to the effect of the internet (even though that's clearly where they are getting this stuff from). People believe crazy things because somehow, something in their circumstances and the conditions of their lives pushes them in that direction. The way I see it, most people try to be rational, they adopt irrational beliefs when they can find no other way to make sense of their experiences and circumstances.

Conspiracy theory ideation is something they've been taught to do via decades of right wing mind rot. They seldom believe in only one. QAnon is a mashup of several.

I believe the Internet plus some human psychology, especially sociology, explains pretty much everything. At our core we are tribal pack animals.

A new religion has formed before our eyes due to a schism borne of modern communications and the speed at which noise drowns out signal. AKA trash being used to overwhelm factual information. When people hear lies, the most important question is who sold those lies? Someone they could identify with? Once you're through the front door with friend / kinship, you basically own the person. The well is empty, ready to be filled by any sort of mental poison. The Ego will construct whatever fantasy is required for the ID for feel comfortable with itself.

Two things to confirm it really is the internet. Look up the behavior associated with team sports. Then look up the sort of bias people have when seeking out and absorbing information. By mere human nature, we are the architects of our own destruction.

Well, I can't deny the internet plays a big role - those I know who parrot this stuff, very clearly get it from the internet, what they've said makes it crystal clear that's the source (e.g. telling me to watch YouTube videos as a source of 'the things they don't want you to know'). But I'm also reluctant to let go of the idea that people embrace this stuff because something in their lives gives them a need to do so.

That's partly because the people I'm thinking of I know have diagnosed mental 'issues'. Also because that's how I was raised, I am always going to be inherently sympathetic to socio-economic explanations for cultural phenomena. It just seems obvious to me that people generally believe what they do because of their particular circumstances and experiences, hence ideology closely relates to demographics (if you are in sufficiently small a minority in that respect, you get labelled as 'crazy', but that usually just means you are trying to make sense of experiences that the majority haven't had). One thing I believe Marx got right was "being determines consciousness".

In particular, I wonder if many people from conservative and intensely-religious communities aren't 'primed' to believe in the child-abduction stuff in the Qanon theories, because people from those communities are disproportionately likely to have suffered abuse as children themselves. Those who have survived such things themselves seem, in my experience, to be more prone to see it everywhere.

I have to post this somewhere... good news in the war against disinformation

Seth is gaining mainstream attraction. With a little luck his finding will get closer to realtime adoption rather than the years of lag we’ve had up till now... its been frustrating to read about a TON of shit on his feed only to wait two years before media goes “OMG BREAKING NEWS”

For fuck's sake... You're acting like right wingers. Not sure why some of you want to worship that guy so much. WaPo recommended reading one of his books as part of a positive book review for another guy's book, literally the last such book in a line where they mention several other books.

Not only that, but...that's not exactly a glowing review and highlights exactly the fucking problem, how those people keep framing shit to sell books, not to get something actually done about that stuff. And the reason why they're ridiculed is because they literally never provide tangible proof for their claims, and its only when later that others do that he then gloats and pats himself on the back for making pretty obvious claims while never providing tangible evidence that matters (gee, you're right Seth is the first person to go "hmm, I bet Turmp and Russia might have been working together?").

Also this pretty much sums up my response:
“American Kompromat” uncovers no secrets, nor does it reveal much that is new, but it reminds us that there is still much left to learn. We know that Trump was compromised, but we’re not sure exactly how.

How. Exactly. Am I acting like "right wingers"? Exactly?
Seth is doing curatorial journalism, that is it. Connecting the dots in a massive sea of already published information. It is NOT his own. And yea ... it WOULD be right wing alt crack pot crazy if this shit didnt have a super strong habit of being proven right once the spotlight is turned on.
Screw Seth! The hell with him. Who tf cares. But follow the data. Right?

*curatorial*

Tf is this? :

Polling shows a third to half of registered republicans say they believe in Qanon. You really think anywhere close to that many registered republicans were abused as children?

The actual explanation, as he said, is tribalism and pack mentality. This is what has attracted them to such propaganda. Decades of conservative media have so demonized the left that now, when they encounter batshit conspiracies theories on the internet, they believe them because they will believe literally anything bad that is said about liberals. They have been so bombarded with misinformation, their minds have turned to mush.

The 24/7 lies and propaganda form their top hosts played a major part in training these cultists. This is a logical progression.

In any POTUS election 1/2 the people will feel like shit, Fox and the trump lie-machine gave these people a target for their negative emotions, the "cheating" Dems, the cheating Dominion system, never did any of these mental-midgets stop and ask why the Dems let Hillary lose last time by much less trump in 2020. They could have stopped the whole trump experience before it ever got into office.

And their #1 topic is ALWAYS how the "leftist" extreme media is looking to "control" things like Q-Anon, reality is these privately run companies have policies against posting about violence and plans to commit violence, deal with it assholes.
If you watch Fox, they are only allowed to have 1 or 2 outrages going on at a time, in order to keep the rage focused. They are way to busy taking down Cuomo at the moment for any other topic to be talked about now.

Former Qanon member apologizes to Anderson Cooper for thinking he drank blood and ate babies.

"Some people thought that you were a robot," he continued. "I didn't just believe that, I believed that QAnon was part of military intelligence, but on top of that, that the people behind them were actually a group of fifth dimensional, interdimensional, extraterrestrial, bipedal, bird aliens called 'Blue Avians.'"

It's good he came to his senses, but we have a serious mental health problem in this country.

Craziest thing of all about QAnon is that it really ultimately began as a practical joke on 4chan .... I can recall the original posts.

PT Barnum was a true genius.

I seem to recall a certain dipshit poster on here trying to claim racism wasn't real because it was a joke on 4/8Chan.

They are actually switching off between Newsom and Cuomo. Always doing the dirty work gratis for the Republican party. I really wonder why they haven't been brought up before the FEC.
