Here's something you won't hear on Fox News -- ratings for the cable news channel have been plummeting since before the November election.

According to TV Newser, the number of people watching Fox during prime time in the 25 to 54 age bracket dropped in April for the sixth straight month.

TV Newser cited a CNN press release which gave these totals for Fox's primetime audience in the 25 to 54 age bracket:
Oct. 04: 1,074,000;
Nov. 04: 891,000;
Dec. 04: 568,000;
Jan. 05: 564,000;
Feb. 05: 520,000;
March 05: 498,000;
April 05: 445,000.

That amounts to a decline of 58 percent, with no sign of leveling off.

Other cable stations' ratings were also down since the election, but CNN's, for example, appeared to have stabilized last month while Fox's continued to drop.

What the press release didn't say is that we can add 629,000 people to those who don't watch Fox. That works out to just over 89,857 people for each of the seven News Hounds who are watching Fox so those people don't have to.

Now that we've added another Hound, we should be able to take care of the remaining 445,000 in even less than six months.

Fox's plunging ratings should be a warning to those cable stations trying to copy the news channel's conservative Republican slant. People are tired of it. Try something different, like a progressive television show, for a change.

Also, from the TV Newser site:
> Also: In April 2005, FNC's weekday primetime demo average decreased 25% compared to the year-ago, while CNN increased 27%.
Ouch, Rupert. That's gotta hurt! Better have Ailes start sending out some more memos, pronto! Prop up the propaganda! The sheep are waking up!

Relatedly, what is happening to MSNBC? I honestly don't know, but heard that they were skewing more and more conservatively. Is that the case, and what are their trends like?

Don't know. I do know Dennis Miller got canned from MSNBC, though. Wouldn't be surprised to see Tucker Carlson and his bowtie show up as a replacement since PBS gave him the boot (probably what pissed Tomlinson off).

Nearly one third less viewers is not "slightly below" :)

Compare that to a year ago... the difference in viewership was much, MUCH greater.

Fox has slipped into the Entertainment News game with CNN, and is losing. Turns out not everyone wants to know which former child start said what at the Jacko trial, or who Brad Pitt is dating now. Pretty sad, all cable news is crap now.

I get all my news from Yahoo's RSS feeds, Google News search, and a few select sites.

EDIT: Now that you can customize the headlines page on Google news, and it automatically refreshes every 15 minutes or so, I just set it up to watch all the topics im interested in, and leave the browser open on my dual monitor at work, while working on the other screen. It's like having a 24 hour news channel on, except its silent, and only shows the topics I want to see. (Business, Politics, Regional News, My fave sports teams, etc)

You can only hype up Lies that are unknown as Lies. Once the Truth is known people either ignore it or lose Trust in you. Even diehards can only stomach a certain amount of Lies. Reality is a bitch, a big angry pitbull that's eats sly Fox for a snack.

Yup.

I usually listen to the BBC World Service myself. Even then I take it with a grain of salt.

Looks like Fox is dead, liberals can rejoice, and they can stop worrying about Fox.

All the ratings ar down now that the General Election is past.

Fox did it's job for the GOP, all the brainwashing of the Sheeple worked flawlessly.

I have to give them props Clap Clap Clap.

Gee lemme see.. what was it that was driving ratings for the MSM+Fox most of the year till November?.. hmm.. uh.. hmm.. got it! - THE FREAKIN' GENERAL ELECTION! duh!

take a look at ALL the networks and see if you find any correlation.. and after that read up on what's known as the "golden rule of statistics": CORRELATION DOES NOT NECESSARILY EQUAL CAUSATION

Y'know, instead of posting 30-somethin' political posts-a-day on a tech-website (?!?) maybe you oughta do something else.. like say, get yourself an education? - just a thought

It was only a matter of time before everyone realized that they didn't need to have 24/7 news every single day, reporting on the same thing every day for two weeks straight.

I didn't know 33% higher was "slight."

Of course ratings are going to decline, its the end of the election, nobody cares about all that stuff anymore.

There are lots of things you don't know. Perhaps you should the whole thread before replying.

To be fair, I hope most cable TV news dies with them. It's all crap, and maybe something better will replace it. Just because I dislike Fox doesn't mean I like anyone else. I just dislike them much less.
