Let's look at Fox's history.

COVID begins it's spread Fox called it a hoax, laughed at it, said it was no worse then a cold or seasonal flu.
Fox scoffed at the idea of mask wearing to mitigate the spread of COVID
At the height of COVID they railed against any lockdowns and promoted premature openings (anyone remember Easter?)
For almost 1 year all of Fox News has been promoting anti-vaccine propaganda with false claims of government control, microchip implantation, Bill Gates spying, etc.

Over the last few days there has been a major shift in their stance on COVID. They've moved from active misinformation to promoting vaccination to their viewers. All the propaganda hosts are on board with the new stance except Fucker Carlson
Fox News and vaccines: What changed this week and what didn't as fears over Delta variant rise (msn.com)

My question, why did Fox News spend so much time promoting death? What happened that caused this seismic shift in policy. They even instituted vaccine passports at their work place. The very same thing they castigated businesses for considering.
For a bunch of conservatives who claim to be pro life they sure love promoting ideas that kill people. Why the shift now?
Fox has quietly implemented its own version of a vaccine passport while its top personalities attack them - CNN

Because they are not actually conservative or pro life. They are whatever the right wing movement needs them to be.

People are always shocked when the right wing media environment pivots on a dime like this but they shouldn’t be. They are able to act in such a coordinated manner because they don’t actually have any fixed principles.

What shocks me more, people forget their dime pivot and the fact it reeks of "we've been lying to you all along"

I swear they could come out tomorrow pushing hard for higher taxes on the poor and middle class as necessary to stave off socialism and their base would eat it up. I think they still vastly underestimate their power.

The increasing probability that most of the country is going to blame them for what's about to happen now that the stakes are really coming into view. The GOP politicians with superior survival instincts are now scrambling away too. A major death wave that your opposition can easily and correctly pin on you is likely not an electoral positive with the indie voters needed in even marginally swingy districts.

Well let's see who has more power. The loyal base at rallies said they won't get the vaccine even it their orange baby leader said to. So let's see if the less far right Faux viewers can be convinced to get it. The extreme right OAN base is too long gone for any hope.

You'd think they'd have realized this by now. Trump lost in 2020 in no small part due to screwing up the pandemic response, something that would've been a softball for even a vaguely competent President; it's not going to look good if Republican-led states are drowning in COVID-19 hospitalizations while their Democrat counterparts are almost back to pre-pandemic conditions.

The answer is simple and has everything to do with politics.
Despite constant pressure from the white house, all these outlets are simply running with new GOP playbooks created by shithole research firms.

2022 elections - GOP is trying prevent the COVID narrative from including the data that points to Conservative media and their idiot followers driving up COVID numbers and the corresponding impact to the economy.
The path that Republican talking points around COVID are literally a dead end and they know that many members of the Republican party are shitheads. They understand that the GOP and its media outlets have a pretty big political risk in continuing to push anti-vax bullshit as part of the effort to make it appear that democrats are trying to hurt the economy and "freedoms".

If COVID variants continue to spread and mutate through the festering petri dish of GOP dumbasses across the country, then responsibility for the next series of lockdowns and mortality rates will fall completely in the lap of every asshole in the Republican party.

This is all prep work and defense for election season.

I thought it was just Hannity changing his tune? AFAIK Fucker hasn’t changed and Ingraham was trashing vaccines as recently as 2 nights ago. Fox & Friends literally just said that dying of Covid was the “anti-vaxxers choice” and should be respected.

The real truth is that it kills young, healthy people now and that means lost tax revenue.

Whereas, old and infirm people are "net losses" and parasites of the state, and contribute, over the long-term to an inverted population pyramid, which not a single government wants.

No governments likes old people. They'd rather see them dead than collecting SS, utilize Medicare, etc. Just that the Republicans have a base that is the easiest to manipulate. The original COVID was the perfect elderslayer and having younger people spread it widens its ability to reach the old and infirm.

Tucker would literally hail satan on his show if it would make the ratings go up. He's not likely to explicitly reverse himself unless the Murdochs pressure him and even then about all I'd expect is for him to move on to some other ginned up outrage. Though what's good for him isn't necessarily what's good for Republicans generally.

Maybe they realized their viewer base/voting base was shrinking due to covid deaths from their propaganda?

Some folks would think this screeching u-turn by FOX and their ilk would confuse many of the Trump led base of the party that rely on FOX and other sundry conservative media outlets. I have no doubt thinking that it's not a problem at all for any of them because in their hearts and minds they have been led to believe that whatever is being sermonized out of FOX is being channeled straight from heaven.

For those folks whatever propaganda FOX disseminates is approved of and recommended by their religious elders as being their #1 trusted source for "news" (talking points) and guidance (colorful rabble rousing brain fucking commentary).

This symbiotic relationship between the Churches and FOX is some kind of evil that's cringe-worthy and disgusting of the highest order.

Probably because they finally recognized both sides were cheering for the same thing. They are happy to stay unvaccinated and we're mostly fine with them staying unvaccinated. They can't have us wanting the same thing or their heads will explode.

yeah nothings really changed at Fox News. Its the norm to politicize everything to get their user base all excited and increase ratings.
Which is sick, almost as sick as almost no one noticing how shitty they are after all these years.

When the markets start to go down and everyone is saying it's due to concerns about the lack of vaccinations, that's when the GOP finally cares. I have no doubt this about face and what seems like coordinated effort is about them (the right, not just Fox) not being blamed.
