Also interesting take on Fox and Friends from former host on their so called "broadcast standards"

Former Fox & Friends host Alisyn Camerota told Mayer that Fox does have solid news reporters, but that she left because she “became so troubled by the lack of standards on Fox & Friends that she wrote a thinly veiled novel, Amanda Wakes Up, about the blurring of journalistic lines at a cable morning show.” Camerota said Fox & Friends was “a fun show, but it was not a news show. It regularly broke the rules of journalism. It was basically Roger’s id on TV.” She went on to say that, “He’d wake up in the morning with some bee in his bonnet, spout it off to Bill Shine, and Shine would tell us to put it on TV.” Camerota also claimed that producers would “cull far-right, crackpot websites for content. Never did I hear anyone worry about getting a second source. The single phrase I heard over and over was ‘This is going to outrage the audience!’ You inflame the viewers so that no one will turn away. Those were the standards.”
Does anyone still wonder why their audience are the most misinformed?

Freedom of the press includes manipulation and filtering out news which might hurt Russian agent takeover of America?

What I thought was most interesting about that story was that researchers once again came to the conclusion that it really is not right wing media vs. left wing media. It is right wing media vs. everything else. The standards for truth and accuracy that are present in left wing and mainstream media are simply absent in conservative media, which is why you see crazy conspiracy theories gain purchase in right wing media but so rarely anywhere else.

In conservative media accuracy is irrelevant, fealty to the movement is what is important. In this case they had a legitimate news story and they decided not to inform their viewers because it would hurt the movement. Because conservatives just want to be told what they want to hear this is a feature for them, not a bug.

Do they have Nazi Party TV channel in Germany? Why would a TV network that is destroying the nation be allowed to broadcast? In the US we have free speech with no problems even where it is making people mentally ill. If this were to happen in a conservative nation, say having communists broadcasting, they would simply burn the station down.

Indeed and because there is a difference between propaganda and news that is real and the deaths of 50 million more or less people was enough for Germans to decide to knock off the free speech bull shit and insist on it.

So, if one can see the dangers that lie on each side of the issue, that people willingly believe lies and never want to hear the truth, some sort of middle ground balancing act may be needed, I think the answer is that our public forums should be allowed to broadcast exclusively only one point of view to prevent uneducated and unselfaware people from falling into a hypnotic state.

This will probably mean revoking broadcasting licenses from for profit corporations. In America today free speech is a privilege one has at the price of huge quantities of money. It may also require packing the Supreme Court with a sufficient majority that was not bought and paid for by the rich.

Rupert's tool, Fox, is nothing more than a propaganda outlet that has been calling itself a news organization. When your content is provably false and yet you persist in airing it, you are not a useful source of information for responsible people. IOW, Fox News is the real fake news organization.

Their motto should be "We Incite, You Destroy"

Meanwhile, the shlubs watching Fox were probably getting all worked up about “ethics in video game journalism” or Donna Brazil’s debate questions to worry about being played for pathetic chumps.

Maybe we need new tough regulations governing all News journalism venues. These entities must be certified to call themselves "News". Standards must be maintained in order to maintain the "News" certification.

This includes all broadcast, cable, internet and social media.

Certifying someone as responsible enough to report on news is not the same as deciding what is news. Nice false equivalence.
