this?

At least 19 people have been killed and around 100 injured in clashes between Spanish-led troops and demonstrators in the Iraqi city of Najaf.
Four soldiers from El Salvador and two from Iraq were reportedly killed in the firefight, which broke out when Iraqi protesters marched on their base.

The crowd were protesting in support of firebrand Shia cleric Moqtada Sadr.

The US administrator in Iraq, Paul Bremer, said protesters had "crossed the line and moved to violence".

"Seven U.S. soldiers were killed Sunday in fighting with Shiite militiamen in the Baghdad neighborhood"

What are we doing protecting those Shiites trying to kill us? Let's send in more troops and use our own WMD... Don't we have a stock of smallpox somewhere?

Just heard the factual part of your post on NPR>

Per your suggested solution, it reminds me of our descent into hell in 'Nam: "It became necessary to destroy the village in order to save it." Right or wrong, all of our best intentions aside, folks stubbornly don't like to be occupied long term by a foreign power, for ANY reason. So . . . we end up killing one hell of a lot of them trying to "save" them. It is insanity. It is why Bush the elder called off the dogs with a clear path to Bahgdad during Gulf War 1.

Right, Bush Sr. was wise to stop short of going all the way.

Now that we kicked the hornet's nest, should we pull out and let them chase us and sting us? or kill off most of them while they sting us? At lease we'll get some oil..er I mean honey off of them.

I thought Shiites were our homies. I hope it's just a small group. If we loose Shiite support, we cannot win.

Shiites in Iraq have been and still are supported by Iran. Their leaders all came from the old school Iranian style cleric schools in Iran. Trust me we have no friends in that group unless we pander to the Islamic radicals/leaders in the Shiite community.

I guess if we would have never gone in there then this would not be happening.

I am starting to think that Bush was using Saddam as a scapegoat for his Administrations failure to STOP 9/11 [/b ] just a hunch though.
