My latest "annoy you with my crappy 80's domestic cars" thread....

Anyway, what do you think of this car:

picture 1

picture 2

This particular car runs mid 11's in the 1/4 mile. They ran 14's from the factory.

In case you're wondering what it is, it's a 1986 McLaren Mercury Capri. Yes, McLaren tuned them.

I need to show a car or two off once in a while ;)

Don't like it.
Mustangs looked good from 64 1/2 to 68, after that they degraded into a steming pile of $hit.

However, it's everyones right to like it.

Then get out of this thread. 80s, curves, NO!

As for the car, I think the paintjob makes it stand out.

The nose is really stretched on that car isn't it? What's under the hood? I like the later model fox bodies, like 90-92.

Nice car.
I personally would prefer a bit more subtle paint job, but I'm an old fart.

HAHA. I figured it had a 302 or some variation thereof but I know that nose has gotta be stretched. For the record a good friend of mine has a built 65 fastback w/ a 302. We put a T-5 in it over the summer and will be adding fuel injection in the near future. I've learned a thing or two about 'Stangs in the last year or two.

I don't particularly like the looks of that car.. It's a little too '80s for me.

definitly one of the nicer foxbodies i'd seen but i still don't care for them too much. when it comes to the 80's Grand Nationals and camaros look the best i think.

Yeah. It looks all right, but for an 80s car, Camaros and GNX types get my vote.

I like a boxy look, but that body style of Mustang was HORRID. Almost shameful to put the Mustang name on it, 5.0 or not.

a regular Cobra looks a bit better if you ask me.. I always thought those cars looked like sportier Tempos or something so you're probably not looking for my opinion... :p

I like most of the car except the rear window area - those couple years it was too big and bulky in the back. The late 80's/early 90's style was nice :D

The Capri in the early years looked better than the mustangs. It had fender flairs which the mustangs were buying body kits for and it also had those funky tail lights that I saw people steal for the mustangs also. I owned a 80 model but I took out the 255 that was in it and shoved a 351c in it, it was not pretty but the performance was a bit scary ;). I sold the cleveland engine then installed a 40 over 302, the 302 had almost as much off the line but would have been severly beat by the Cleveland once it got rolling.

My friend had a punched 302 in a 79 model and the thing I loved about his was that the inside door handle were right next to the floor where mine was up top on the door.

EDIT: Oh yea, they killed the look of them when they did that big bulb back window. What were they thinking?
