Discuss SETI@Home, F@H, FaD, CPDN, SoB, E@H, BOINC and other distributed computing topics here.

Well, okay, let's discuss that then. Somebody fill in the blanks for me:

SETI@Home: Technically it's part of BOINC now.
F@H: Folding at home.
FaD: The heck you say?
CPDN: Uhm....what?
SoB: Hey, no cursing here!
E@H: Einstein perhaps? Again, covered by BOINC.
BOINC: BOINC.

Well, F@H is run out of Stanford university to cure all kinds of cancer.

Boinc (I think) is run out of Berkley ? and has multiple DC projects.

Thats all I know.

FaD was Find-a-Drug. I suppose anything that lasts only four years could also be considered a fad. 😛

CPDN is Climate Prediction Dot Net. They moved to BOINC, once they convinced BOINC to add "trickling" of results.

SoB is Seventeen or Bust. They were running an independent client, until just this past April, apparently. PrimeGrid is now doing all Seventeen or Bust work.

Yes, E@H is Einstein.

Thanks Ken. And yes Orange Kid, other than honestly not knowing what some of those stood for...the main point was somebody needs to update this sub-forum. 😉

Sorry, been here too long. Thought you highlighted the 'other' projects as they are dead or changed slightly.
Lots of the "original" DC projects had their own app. BOINC was created as a sort of wrapper for DC projects to que work and a way to consolidate stats I believe. SETI for instance was stand alone and work was do one get another. SETIQ created a way to have a que of work to rely on. Distributed.net does OGR and RC5 those clients have their own way of storing work, but now OGR is also done through YOYO. MUON has a stand alone app as well as a YOYO app. Projects have come and gone. Some worthwhile others not so much. A lot have matured and changed their names slightly and have their own web presence via BOINC server side software.
Anyway, I guess now that most DC projects have opted to use the BOINC wrapper then that should be probably mentioned first and then some of the more prominent projects mentioned after that?
