I want 2 gigs of ram, but i already have 2 sticks of OCZ ddr2 512 on dual channel, would be good to ad another pair of 512, or buy two new sticks of 1 gig?

(sorry if this was already asked before, but i could not find it on the search) 🙂

thanks in advance

Actually, this gets asked all the time (but usually about the A64).

I'm not sure how the performance shakes out on the P4, but the Athlon64 generally has to run the RAM at 2T command timings with four DIMMs, which drops performance a bit. But it would still be better than paging to disk if your memory usage is over 1GB.

2x 1GB is what you want. Populating all four DIMMs will almost certainly result in reduced timings, and loss of my excellent compatriot n' Quiet.

He has a Pentium 4 using DDR2. Please read posts/threads before responding to them...

I see that now, I fogot some people still build P4s 😛.

Regardless though filling all of your DIMMs is not recommended regardless of platform. It?s much harder to get stable operation across that much traffic at that speed, which is why timings are generally automatically dropped.
