Four individuals in Manhattan

Mrvile

Lifer
Some of you may know that I'll be in NYC for a while and in the time I've been here I've taken several photos. I don't have Photoshop here and the laptop I'm on probably couldn't handle The Gimp so I'm left uploading photos straight from the camera, and the only editing I can do is a resize and crop in MS Paint.

Here are four from today that I found interesting. I went out for a walk with the last lens I would bring, my Sigma 150mm macro, not expecting that it would make an excellent street candid lens. I just wish it was a zoom...a 70-200L IS would've been the optimal piece of glass here.

Shooting candids is kind of weird, something I hadn't done before, and as I had quite a lens attached to my camera, I did get a few stares (one homeless guy even commented..."That shoot long range?"). I was out for an hour and a half and only came back with only 25 shots...I did miss many potential photographs because I was kind of nervous pointing my camera at strangers in a very public place.

Ahh well. Enough talk.

Stuyvesant Square

Union Square

Union Square again

Somewhere in the city

All four will probably be picked on a bit further in PS when I get back home.

Well I've been visiting at this time of year for 2 years now (this is the third), as it's my best friend's birthday. I'm staying just north of central park on 110th tomorrow and sunday night, and then a group of us have a few rooms at the Roosevelt Hotel Friday and Saturday. Not much time to sightsee this time, but I think I've done enough of that the past few years...gonna hit up the Met again tomorrow on my free time...other than that, most of my time is already planned out through Sunday afternoon. 🙂

With all the people getting together, it's like the chinese crowd at UM of 3 years ago just up and moved to NYC...should be interesting.

Whereabouts are you?

I'm staying in the George Washington of SVA (School of Visual Arts) on Lexington Ave between 23rd and 24th. I'm taking a pre-college class here as a prospective student of this school.

Where all females go in NYC?

I tried to keep the photo subjects mostly guys so I wouldn't get into trouble of any kind. Sh!t like that happens to photographers all the time, so as a candid shooter I try to keep it conservative.

oi i know what its like being afraid of taking candid shots. for my photography class my senior year of highschool, a lot of the weekly assignments would involve people or kids. its so hard to put yourself out there and get those kinds of shots where the people don't pose for the camera, or more appropriately turn away when a stranger has a camera in their hands.

Good one.

Looks like maybe he was kicked out of his rent-controlled apt., or his gf kicked him out.
Sorry, tough sh*t - nobody feels sorry for you here!

And yeah, I work in Manhattan 6 days a week, cutting moulding in a damp and dingy basement surrounded by dust, roaches, and general NY type unmentionable scum.
But gotta make the landlord happy- he should be for $5K a month.😀

Vagrants!😛

Seriously, that last dude kinda pisses me off- Get off your ass and go get a job.

He looks EXACTLY like a guy I just graduated college with. I sent the pic to all my friends from school and they all agree the resemblance is insane.

Ill try to dig up a picture of the guy from school for ya.

Do that, gotta see this.😛
NYC is one big ass insane space. Even 1000 pics can't describe the "feel" of this city, and I'm just talking about Manhattan, not the 4 other boroughs.
