The new Space Shuttle has heat shield tiles with microtransmitters in each one that report in their status to a central controller every 1/10th of a second. Fascinating.
 
Guys, no kidding, I actually giggled like a cretin for five minutes after I read that.

It must be the adrenaline kicking in with euphoria.
