I'm looking at a headset from i-metal, and it uses a 4-conductor-ring design, and adapts it to a few different kinds of plugs. Unfortunately, it doesn't have an adapter that changes it to a separate plug for the mic-in and sterio-out. Is there an adapter out there that I could purchase?

Mind you, it does have an adapter to a four-conductor 2.5mm plug, as well.

That headset is designed for smart phones. Specifically for the iPhone. It wasn't meant to be used as a PC headset. There are no adapters available for this kind of conversion. You will probably have to make one yourself. The tip should be left, the next ring should be right, next is ground and then bottom is mic. I may have the left and right reversed. Hard part may be tracking down the 3.5mm female plug that has 4 contacts. But your better of with an actual PC headset. You'll get better sound quality out of it anyway.

Oh well then it isn't terribly wrong.

The sleeve is usually ground, so the 3rd ring should be mic hot, but that's just a guess.

Well, my interest stems from the fact that they seem to be a decent sounding pair of IEM's, with a mic as well. This is an uber-win for me, as the other option would be a collapsible circumaural headset, and I can't seem to find a decent one.

That's kinda what my other Peripherals thread is about.

If anyone knows a store that stocks a four-conductor 3.5mm jack, I can pick up the regular stereo plugs locally, and I already have soldering equipment.

Another related issue is 2.5mm four-conductor plug to 2x 3.5mm. There is a supplied 4-conductor 3.5mm to 4-conductor 2.5mm adapter...
