Found the old pellet gun

I found my old air rifle in the basement, can I just shoot this thing in my yard off my back deck? It doesn't look like a real rifle.

I'm assuming I need to know the bylaws of my area, I'm in Ottawa Ontario if anyone knows...

are you in a city or are there lots of houses around? you have to be careful where you shoot. if you're in a suburb i would think its ok, but in a city, not so sure.

i am not a lawyer or a citizen of canada though, so i owuld probably check with your local police dept at least.

In the US it's something like 1000ft from a building to discharge a firearm. Not sure about pellet guns. Considering it doesn't make much noise and doesn't look real you should be fine, although there is probably some bylaw restricting its use in certain situations (malls, police stations, schools, hockey rinks, ect.)

Some towns outlaw the use of paintball guns or air guns. Get a cardboard box, fill it with some newspapers/old phonebooks, hang a target, and enjoy pellet shooting inside your own home (outside the prying eyes of nanny government).

yeap. when i was younger my father built a me a shooting range for my air gun in the basement.

I don't think there are any particular laws on pellet guns for this kind of situation, but please, aim down, and make sure you can't shoot "through" anything.

My town actually has a law regarding firing pellet/bb guns within a certain distance of homes otherwise I would have one.

if you're within city limits, you can get a ticket for "discharging a firearm within city limits" in my hometown the fine is $111.80
