I have never head of a persimmon before until now.

In California we had figs and pomegranates. Here in Colorado we have an apple tree and some berry tree.

Well, shit. That throws a wrench in the works. I guess I'll see what happens. Even if I don't get nuts, I'll have some nice trees if they grow. I'm always up for some more trees.

My daughter wanted to show her friends the house on GoogleEarth. It wasn't visible from above, or from street view; too much greenery. A stealth house :^D

I bought trees via the internet from here.

In my area selection was important because some types wouldn't produce ripe nuts before frost and they had good suggestions. I don't know where you are but I can recommend them and you'd save a few years by spending relatively little on trees over starting from seed.

Oh, try boiling chestnuts in salted water for 45 minutes, then fish them out and "x" cut them. I have an old hot pad to hold one while I cut it, then I toss them into a cast iron skillet preheated in a hot oven and finish them under a broiler. They come out tender and more cleanly, and are much easier to cut when fresh out of hot water.

I saw persimmons at the store this morning - right between the quince and the pomegranates. Persimmons must have hit the big time recently, if WalMart is carrying them.

Quince though, I've only heard of that in "The Owl and the Pussycat" poem. Never knew what it was until today.
