So I was on vacation for 3.5 weeks in Nepal for part of March and April. I went to punch in at work last Saturday and couldn't. When I went to punch in today as well, I also couldn't. At least my new boss was around, so I let her know that I couldn't punch in. She brought me up in the computer and found out that I was fired. Evidently, if you don't work for more than a month, corporate automatically fires you. Pretty lame in my opinion, especially since I had given at least 3 months notice that I would be gone on an extended vacation.

Now the job was just a couple of hours a month workin at a gym, but it made the membership free instead of $80 and I enjoyed the work. They're going to see if they can send me through the rehire process so I can get my job back, but since they've been making cuts, I'm less than hopefull. It's not the end of the world, but the whole thing just pisses me off on principle, especially since I'm the one that's been there the longest and no one mentioned anything to me before I left for the trip.

So where you work, 3.5 weeks is considered more than month? Hmmm...

Might be one reason no one mentioned it to you. They may have been under the (erroneous?) assumption that 3.5 weeks is less than a month.

Anyhoo, good luck with the rehire thing.

Employee: "Excuse me...my card isn't working."

Boss: "That's not all that's no longer working..."

Wow. Better hope none of their employees ever have to take medical leave for more than a month, or they'll get sued.

Wow you guys sure owned the OP. I'm sure while making up his lie and forgot how many weeks are in a month. Or it could be that he only works a couple of hours a month like his post reads and didn't work the day before and the day after his vacation so the time away from that job was greater then 1 month.

Sexually harassing the personal trainers would be my guess.

Oh man, my mom had that with her workplace. She was on paid family leave for 4 months or so and when she got back she was not an employee, lost her health insurance (which we continued to pay for the premium) and whole lot more..

basically we were screwed until we started going up the union rep. Freaking CVS.

He only works a couple of hours a month, so it's not like he's there every day. He probably only works weekends. So depending on when the 3.5 weeks started and ended they could have covered 4 weekends. If we're talking about a Friday to Tuesday vacation, it'd be 33 days between the last Sunday he could have worked and the first Saturday he could have worked.

They're only required to give her 12 weeks of family leave per 12 months.

Was your 3.5 weeks of leave approved prior to leaving?

Yep, thats it. I didn't work the weekend before I left and the weekend after I got back to to getting ready for the trip and getting over food poisoning and the time difference when I got back.

And for those of you who wanted a pic, here are a couple of previews.

That sucks. It also reminds me that I need to put in for my vacation time ASAP, since I am taking five or six weeks off.
