When you click a linked .ppt file in IE, the default setting is that it opens in the browser window, as a slideshow. Clicking Excel or Word files will also open in the browser window.
I found and turned off the "Browse in same window" checkbox in My Computer\Folder Options\File Types under the distinct file types (.ppt, .doc, .xls), so now clicking the link will actually use Word or Excel or Powerpoint to open the file, separate from the browser window. However, with .ppt files it still opens them in slideshow mode, not in normal, editable mode. There's no way I can find to end the slideshow without Powerpoint closing completely.
I found one FAQ that mentioned MS Office 2003 will open .ppt files in normal mode when it's clicked from a browser window, but I just tested that and found it untrue - it still opens in slideshow mode. I also know that Netscape and Mozilla will open .ppt files in normal mode rather than slideshow mode, but this is for an application at work and we've got to use IE.
Am I forced into right-clicking the link to Save Target As and opening it from my local HD, or is there any way to get Powerpoint to open a .ppt from IE in normal mode rather than slideshow mode?
Thanks,
Jason
