smoothwall installed on a 486. you can download it for free. it's REALLY easy to install and set up.
the 486 will need to nics, one coming in from the Internet source (called "red" when installing smoothwall) and one going to your computer or your hub (called "green").
Don't know if she needs to share the printer, but that is nice if 2 or 3 are shareing an inet connection and only one printer available.
i too am looking to buy something for $55-65.
I have found a 3com router and on pricewatch a Gigafast.
Never owned either but both are around $60.
Thanks, everyone. I purchased a D-Link DI-704P at a local wholesaler for 86$. I found a 20$ rebate at amazon, but it is not valid at all the big retailers. Good thing I got it at a small, no-name place
