Found out from an official document dated 31-10-1571 where my earliest confirmed ancestors got married, in the royal city of Orléans during the autumn of 1476, at a time when the French king was under siege there by the Burgundy forces (perennial allies of the English, even though this was after the Hundred Years War). The church still exists today and the actual building was the third one, built after its predecessor was destroyed during another siege of the city in 1428 (time of Joan of Arc). This ancestor is mentioned to have been a blacksmith for the King's army.

So here's the actual building where they got married. They subsequently moved to Paris in 1483-1484 and my direct patrilineal filiation takes off from there.

nice find. I know and can prove that my ancestors arrived in America around 1630. proving anything past this is pretty difficult, the only thing i do know is that we came from Holland then Kent then to the new world.

my 22nd great grandfather is Robert the Bruce, king of scotland till 1329

but the scottish government wouldnt give me a cut of the royal inheritance when i explained this to them :(
