I remember that kind of forum. Isn't that the one that kept crashing and taking EVERYTHING with it?

fusetalk hasn't crashed much that i can remember

it was ubb that crashed and took everything with it every once in a while

It's no secret that the free server's bandwidth is throttled, but the subscriber server is not.

He is, and he makes it no secret. It's because bandwidth costs, and he wants his main site to remain as quick as possible. Over 1500 members and unregistered lurkers could be browsing and posting at any given time. That's a lot of traffic to support. The truth is AnandTech is a business and the forums are a loser compared to the main site.

Paid subscribers get fast access however. $30 for a year isn't so bad, IMO.
