Found an awesome App!

So I'm shopping around for entry level telescopes and I wondered if perhaps there was an App for star gazing and sure enough as they say, "there's an an App for that." Skymap!

I always wanted to know what I was looking at in the night sky. It has always bugged the crap out of me and without knowing where my star chart was I figured I try and see if there was an App. The App uses your GPS and compass. Just point at the sky to what you want to know what is there and BINGO! I was seeing Jupiter!

App looks good ... that scope will probably disappoint. For budding astronomers the first scope is the most important because if the first is bad the views will disappoint and the probability that the user will move on from the hobby is significantly increased.

The best option for beginners is usually a good set of binos. The magnification and FOV are usually adequate for a good visual experience. Just get a quality pair ...

Funny you mention that because I was thinking of buying these or this. I do have a spotting scope though. Just bought this instead of investing in a SLR digital with a special ring.

Edit- Looks like a mod moved my topic from Off Topic.

kinda maybe...my compass is always off until i calibrate, and even then I can never get a good lock on N...its always more like NNW (and no, I'm not talking about the magnetic field messing things up, its visibly off by more than a tad)..

edit: Thats on android though (nexus 4, S5, nexus 5, galaxy nexus, G2, etc.) ....Apple may have a better compass so this is never an issue.
