I live very close to a "Frys" (20 minutes) and called them up and they said they have some in stock. Pickup only. Its a Diamond brand, should I still get it? How is there reputation? Ive always gone nVidia, untill now, so I dont know much about ATI.

I paid $249 for that card by HIS. The card is worth the money no doubt but the every retailer raised the price because of supply and demand. The MSRP for this card is $249.99. So if you can't wait i would go for it otherwhise you might wanna wait.

If you don't want it, buy it and ship it to me. Or just about anyone else on the video forums.

ATI raised the price to $299 for 5850 and $399 for 5870.

Supply might have something to do with it but no competition from Nvidia as well.

From a hardware standpoint it doesn't matter which brand you choose; from a support/warranty standpoint, Diamond is ranked the lowest.

if you need it, buy it. Supply won't get any better soon. Both AMD and NV use the same supplier. So if Fermi goes live next year, well the supplier will have to distribute their material between AMD and NV! So I don't see the supply situation improving anytime soon until mid next year.

This, there's not even a difference in the cooler design this time, because everyone uses the reference stuff.

So it all comes down how much you value soft factors like warranty - you probably won't get a better deal in the next few months..

Diamond brand?
Good luck with that.

Diamond are the same cards almost any other company has. As for right now i assume they are build by Sapphire PBC's and Chips provided by AMD. I don't think any of the manufactures makes their own Boards as of yet so at this point I really don't think it matters what HD 5850 card you will be buy they are all using the same board and chip the only difference is the bios.

Wow, you definitely are unlucky. I ordered mine on the 13th and it shipped on the 22nd. I really lucked out I guess.

To the op, its all the same hardware, never owned a diamond board, but as long as they aren't complete failures at copying and pasting a design you should be fine.

hey dude didnt get a chance to go and check on what chicago had in stock today when i was on lunch, ended up falling asleep after i ate and only just made it to the clock in time to punch in (Yay for going to work sick). if you use the product number i PMed you you can have them check the system for when they may be getting more. unfortunately the XFX model is $319 though, and diamond is really that crap lol. i waited a whole week extra from when we got the 5870s in stock to get an XFX model for my second card, especially since i already had one XFX to begin with. the bonus is that frys inventory doesnt run out within 30 seconds the way etailer inventory does. we had a dozen 5770s in stock yesterday when i hopped by, looked like about 8 today, sale price of (ooh yay) $169.99. we usually only get 2 5870s and maybe 3 5850s in a single shipment though, and they usually end up hidden so we can find them when we get a customer who isnt a total dick to sell em to. when i got my second one, i had to track the shipment through the company for a week, and show up in the morning when it was supposed to arrive just to make absolute sure i got it before someone else did, since everyone and i mean EVERYONE else was out of stock constantly by that time.

hey, so yeah i called them up with that number and they said they have one and i asked if theyd hold it for me and they said yes. i was like sweeetness. when i called the first time, he said he had a diamond for 279, so i called back to hold it, then he said "oh wait, we are out of those" so i started crying and he heard me sniffle on the phone, so i gave him that number you gave me and he said "well....i got an xfx here" i was like ok, hold that please. so im going there today after my clasees. but i was thinking...if they have a 5870 there for 399, i might as well just get that for the extra 70 bones. ill decide when i get there, and keep you posted. thanks for that number though ;-)

If you can snag a 5870 for just $70 difference (and really, it's not about the price here... it's about actually finding one on stock), I'd say go for it and you are very lucky. Figuratively, everybody and their dog is trying to get one of the 5xxx series, and being able to snag the flagship card is definitely great.
