Found a news article about ex-girlfriend: Ex-husband gave her $15,000 engagement ring

Certainly glad that relationship didn't work out! :D



The article was about the difficulty in selling engagement rings since the selling prices are usually FAR below appraised value (I think she was quoted as saying that she could get 30% of the actual value). So, guys: Buy your rings on the used market for a good deal. Just get the inscription filed off... ;)

I deal in diamonds and its because people pay retail. The retail markup as you already know, is incredible. Something that I'll buy wholesale for $1800 to $2000, I can sell for $2500 on ATFSFT or another website, still make 10% on my money and be $2000 less than Zales.

Women buy rings by the "OH LOOK ITS SHINY AND HUGE" concept, and I can tell you how many couples I see that the woman points and thats it. No negotiation, no nothing, we'll get it resized and it'll be ready in an hour.
