Hey everyone, I know that this is a mainly a computer forum but I didn't know where else to post it.
I'm currently in the market to get a set-top dvd player (the kind that hooks up straight to the tv) and I found the Toshiba SD1600 for $160 but I don't know if it's any good. I have been debating between the toshiba sd1600, the Pioneer DV333, and the Sony DVPS360. Now my main concern is to get a good reliable player that won't break down after a week of use and it won't have too many problems reading discs. So the question is this, will the toshiba player last or will I regret my purchase?
My setup is as follows: 27" RCA tv with A/V jacks only (no s-video inputs), Technics dolby pro logic receiver (no dolby digital or dts). In order to take advantage of s-video and dolby digital I would have to upgrade both my tv and my receiver and I am not willing to do that at this point or for a few years to come. Right now I just want a dvd player so that I won't have to keep watching dvd's on my computer.
So what's the verdict? I realize that the pioneer can play cd-r's but that doesn't concern me at all, so it all comes down to the quality of the player. Does toshiba make good quality players or should I spend the extra $90 and get either the sony or the pioneer?
