Just came home and a baby duck was following my cat around the driveway. The is no mother in sight. It has fethears and walks good....but Im afraid to just let it go...afterall it was just following a cat and other cats may not be so nice.

I know nothing about ducks and cant seem to fins any good info with a google search.

What should I do?

You have a lake or something nearby? Maybe you can find the mother and take the baby back to it. It probably just wandered off from the rest of the group.

I'd take care of it, or find a shelter that specializes in ducks.

You can always have it as a pet ;)

Well, I know that people keep ducks as pets.. so I don't think it would be too bad. You'd just have to find some info to make sure you are taking care of it.. and try to raise it so that it isn't completely dependant on you. Try calling around at some animal shelters.. they may be able to tell you who to talk to to find out what you need to do. Good luck.. and get some pics! :)

The mother might not want it back. They they tend to disown chicks/ducklings that have been handled by humans. I know this for a fact. If you try to put it back with a mother it might kill it. You can't keep it because of the cats. Try to give it away to someone who is able to take care of it and won't kill it or contact the aspca.

keeping it as a pet depends on if your cat is a indoor or outdoor cat

If you do decide to keep it, I'm going to find some sites that may help.

http://www.liveducks.com/care.html

I'll keep looking too... your options right now are either to keep it, or see if a shelter will take it. Ducks make great pets I have heard.. they're very friendly and cute... but require a bit of care. Especially with cats in the house... you should keep them seperated at all costs until the duck is older.
