There's a ton of styles that I haven't included here. If you don't like a particular style, don't stop drinking beer because of it. There are so many different styles that you're bound to like some of them. These recommendations are beers you should be able to find nationally; for region specific recommendations, let us knopw where you're from

I was just trying to say some that are common and yet better then average. If you really want good beer...go microbrew!

In the US i believe is. Sapporo a japanese beer is brewed in Canada as well. it taste close to the same but the Japanese version is better in my opinion.

I haven't seen Fosters for sale at a bottleshop of pub in years...I think it isn't availible on the east coast any more because demand for it was so low.

Russian Imperial Stout: Yeti from Great Divide brewing or more commonly available Samuel Smith's Imperial Stout

Can I suggest that both people who love and hate Guiness try the above? Guiness is not the end all be all of what malty bitters can be...

Double IPA: Three Floyd's Dreadnaught. Probably not commonly available but I think it defines the American style, that being said, I don't care for hops uber alles.

OOh, and you should probably try a scotch ale too, maybe Belhaven or McEwan's - commonly available and pretty good.

And on the lighter side, it's a little late now, but you should definately try some German Hefeweizens - (I've found that the american ones usually aren't that good - except for Live Oak, which is availabe draught only in texas).

And if you have a tastel for the truly esoteric, try my favourite style, Flanders Red Ales. An easily available should be Rodenbach Grand Cru.

And if anyone can find 3Floyd's Dreadnaught IPA, I demand that you send me a bottle . Seriously though, if you do have access djheater, would you be interested in a trade?

I use to not like it but now i Love a good hefeweizen. I havent really been able to find a good hefeweizen that is national or atleast regional in the northeast. All the ones i drink are micro . Any suggestions?

A lot of the best examples are german, and widely available ; eg. Weihenstephaner, Paulaner, Franziskaner, Julius-Etcher.

BTW, if you;re ever in austin, try out Live oak hefeweizen on tap... amazing

Also, I liked Southern Tier's Heavy Weizen, although it isn't a true hefe. It should be fairly well distributed in the NE. Also, if you like Hefe's, make sure you try Aventinus. It's awesome.

Hey its better than Bud or most Miller

Incidentally, Fosters is 5.1% alcohol. Bud and MGD are 5%. Miller High Life is 5.5%. For what it's worth.

IIRC Icehouse is 5.5 as well. Have some fond memories of that crappy beer from college days.

To Jinru the beers I can get in a decent area around here...(like up and down the east coast) are..

Blue Moon - Its a light beer but DAMN is it a tasty peice of beer. Put a orange in it and you might not even notice its a beer.
Smithwicks - Little brother to Guiness..good stuff
Bass Pale Ale - Not my favorite but everyone seems to like it.
harpoon IPA - Mmmmm candy..hoppy
Stella Artois - Nice crisp beer
Seirra nevada IPA - Very good (my favorites are IPAs)
Everyone here LOVES Yuengling. Its not a great beer but for the cheapness of it..its much much better then miller and such.
Sam Adams- They have a lot of diffrent kinds including seasonals. This summer I had their summer ale and it was quite tasty!
Guiness - I dont like it..one of the few beers I dont. For some reason I cant get my mouth around stouts either.
Red Stripe - Yah Man! Its Jamacan!
