Forza Horizon 4 Steam launch issues?

Bought FH4 from Steam,and I can't get it to launch at all.

(Game acts like it's opening,then instant CTD.)

Have it installed on my USB 3.0 external 12 TB hard drive.

Running an AMD Ryzen 3700X,Nvidia GTX 1080,and 32 GB of Corsair Vengeance DDR4.
(Windows 10 Pro 64-bit.)

Any ideas why it's crashing?

the steam version is messed up.
Direct from the microsoft store is overall best.
