Forza 2 or GT5

I am a huge car nut, I loved GT4 and the sheer choice and amount of configuration with the cars.

Should I keep my PS3 and wait for GT5 or sell it and get a 360 with Forza 2 ?

You'll be waiting a looong time from what I hear. By the time it comes out you'll probably be able to get a PS3 dirt cheap.

Selfishly, I'd like for you to get Forza 2 and join us every Wednesday night for our AT forums racing night.

That said, GT5 will almost assuredly be better than Forza 2 based purely on time (it will be 2-3 years after the release of Forza 2). Of course, a betting man would be smart to put GT5 and Forza 3's release windows very close together.

Agreed.

If you want to race now though Forza 2 IMHO is your best bet.

Forza 3 will probably be out before GT5. GT5 is supposedly 2 years away from completion, which would put it in 2010.

I wish I could use the Logitech GT5 wheel on the 360. 🙁 I stopped playing Forza cause it didn't feel right without a wheel, and didn't want to buy another.

Don't. Prologue is great and they will add damage + new cars and tracks pretty soon (probably by next month or so).

Seriously, don't even compare Forza, an amateur game, to the REAL driving simulator.

Have you even played Forza? You sound like a GT fanboy. I used to be one of those, until I discovered that Forza was like twice as much fun. Seriously.

forza 2 - GT5P, no car collisions, online is HORRIBLE and let me stress...HORRIBLE. The GT series is well behind the curve, visually looks good...but honestly, play GT5P and then play forza 2, you tell me which one is the driving simulator....

I loved GT4, and bought GT5 Prologue on release day. However, GT5 better be MUCH better than Prologue or it wont hold a candle to Forza2! It pains to say because I spent many hours on GT4, but GT5 Prologue just isnt up to snuff.

You sounds like a fanboy. Forza is excellent and just as much a driving simulator as GT. And I haven't seen any credible source saying they are going to add damage or new cars to Prologue. In fact, I find it hard to imagine damage being something you could just tack on via an update.

Polyphonics has said that they want to add damage. Nobody knows when or to what degree though.

The online play of Forza 2 and the fact that you can go out and buy/play it today makes this the easy choice.

Saying they want to is totally different from actually doing it or saying when.

Another thing Forza has that GT5 doesn't is cars from Porsche and Lamborghini.

GT has FERRARIS + the F2007 (which is the Ferrari F1 used in 2007).

Seriously?! You did not know that GT5 Prologue would have damage? On which planet do you live?

From Wiki:

Autumn 2008 (planned) On April 4 the series creator, Kazunori Yamauchi, declared "There are still a lot of things we have left un-done in GT5 Prologue, so by fall this year there will be another major update to the game".[28] Earlier on March 18, 2008, the North American version producer, Taku Imasaki, already announced planned updates involving online community features would be available after April 17.[29] This was later confirmed by Yamauchi himself "The major things that we're planning for the update will be to add community building features such as communication between players."[30] During a press event in London on April 4, Martin Robinson from IGN has reported in an interview with Kazunori Yamauchi that vehicle deformation (damage modelling) will be added to Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Spec II through a future update. "Maybe by Fall [2008] we'll be able to implement it"[31][32] Yamauchi mentioned. The same day Yamauchi explained to CVG's Mike Jackson that "in terms of quality and features of the game, and in terms of functionality, GT5 Prologue will ultimately reach an equivalent level to GT5. I think the major difference between Prologue and GT5 will be the number of cars and courses that will be included within the game, in that there will be many more."[33] During an interview with IGN on July 17, 2008, when asked about the progress on the damage patch, Yamauchi answered, "Our plans haven't changed, and we're working on it. But this is Gran Turismo, so it might be a little bit late."

GT5 Prologue has already sold over 2+ million copies worldwide and is pretty strong in Europe and now it is possible to play online with every player across the globe (prior to the latest update, it was limited to your continent, or region). Since the new update was released, online has improved quite a bit (they fixed collisions and penalty so that there would not be any more wall-surfing or wallriding and "punters".

And yes, I played Forza 1 and 2. Didn't like the first one and was "meh" about the second. The feeling is not there, and this is from a guy that plays a lot of SIM racing games. Not ARCADE, like most Americans tend to play, explaining the rather HUGE popularity of GT5P in Europe and Asia as compared to the modest reception it got here.

GT doesn't have Porsche, but it's got something comparable, Ruf. Although I would love to drive the Carrera GT in GT 5.

Yeah, Forza has always had Ferraris. But it's never had F1 cars, which is a shame. Closest you can get is the Ferrari F333 SP, but that's really nothing like an F1 car.

However, I think this decision really depends on how good Forza 3 ends up being. Forza 2 is a fun game, no doubt about it, but I wouldn't switch from a PS3 to a 360 for it. It doesn't really play any differently from the original Forza on the Xbox, it lacks many of the features present in other racers (like cockpit view), it has mediocre wheel support, and the track selection is poor. The graphics aren't that great either.

Forza 3 ought to fix most of those things, except the wheel support. But I'd still wait for an in-depth preview before making a decision. Forza 2 claims to have 47 tracks, but it's actually only 12 tracks, with the total number of 47 reached by counting every single variant and reverse version of each track. Forza 3 is supposed to have 100 tracks, but based on how Forza 2's tracks were counted, it might only have 24.

So Forza does have plenty of disadvantages. It also has lots of advantages. Things like the ability to repaint your car (or even create elaborate custom designs), the ability to swap out a car's entire engine and drivetrain, and more in-depth tuning.
