Forum slowdowns lately?

For about the last week or so the forums have been really slow when browsing in the afternoon or evening. Did you cut bandwidth again, or is it on my end?

You may be plagued by the timeout crap that some are, here no problems its quite fast. We are adding a new subscriber server to the cluster VERY soon.

<< Probably the bandwidth cap, thats why we offer subscriptions.

Thanks

Hmm... sounds like forcing people to subscribe. Not a good idea 😉

It's really dragging along for me as well 🙁

Well today it's zooming along nicely. Most of the time it's fast but once in awhile though it does seem to slow down considerably. Of course this is usually during peak hours of internet use and could be do to the overall traffic on the internet. And yes, it usually comes in the form of this "Time Out " crap..LOL🙂

It has been slow today for me. I am on a T1 and have to wait 15-20 seconds if not more for the pages to load. Normally its just a few seconds.

I know there is a bandwidth cap for non-subscribers. 🙂 But for the last few months everything has been fine at all times of the day. However, for around the last week the forums have noticeably slower even in the mid-afternoon when I get home. 😕 I would think if the bandwidth cap was slowing it down, that it would become noticeable gradually as more users logged on, rather than all at once one day. Oh well. 🙂

I just did a long ping test, and it's constant at about 47 ms. So it doesn't seem like timeouts are an issue atleast for me.

I hope they get another subscriber server soon. I bought subscribed so I can have better speed, but at school with a T1 and at home with cable, it has been faster to delete my cookies and use the forum.anandtech.com and sign in without remember me once in awhile to see if I have any PMs. 🙁 That is NOT what I paid money for.

That's not a question I can answer, thats all up to anand.

I guess I could ask you will bandwidth be free? Probably not.

bot, your issue has nothing to do with subscriber and something to do with your connection there are no problems like your describing.

Reloaded this thread about 50 times and it averages 1 tenth of a second, not a subscriber issue and there are over 800 on.

Right, so I have a problem with my connection at school, and my connection at home and it only affects me when I surf this site. I'll get right on that.

bot, I think you know what I mean't, in that there is nothing on the servers causing what your describing, what it is between you and the servers I don't know. No need to be rude.

If you read this thread, You'll notice that most everyone doesn't have any issues so its obvious it's somehow isolated to your path to the servers.

Subscriber Thread

No problem bot 🙂, when its slow do me a favour and run tracert subscriber.anandtech.com let me know how that goes. We'll be putting subscrbier 2 up very soon maybe that might help your situation but I doubt it.

Thanks for the feedback.

zuni yes can you do that please. Ask anand about that. I do understand that it cost more $$ but If a year down the road no more servers or bandwidth are added i fear that newbies will come check out our forums and that go away because it is way too slow and never even get a chance to see what they are missing to make them want to pay the subscriber. price. I hope that makes some sense I know what i am saying but do not know how to say it. Or perhaps even offer a free week so peopl can see that it is alot better and will pay. thanks Zuni

I've been getting pages load half-way and pause, sometimes timing out entirely. I'll see about running traceroutes to see if it's a particular step along the way.

I've been having issues with timeouts and slow loads for about a week now. I work in 5 different offices from Los Angeles to San Diego and each office/computer has been delivering the same situation. I actually seem to have more problems during the middle of the day than at night. Will having a subscription definately improve my page loads.

tracert runs 12 jumps and ping subscriber yields 97ms avg.

They are slow on my friends DSL, my cable, my friends t1, my neighbors dialup, and also on everybody I talk to on AIM. My pages time out all the time, and I will be lucky if something completely loads within 2 minutes.

I think that if we want to be a part of this community and have bearable page loads, we will have to subscribe. I doubt they're going to do a whole lot to fix the free side.

Sucks actually, but I like the forums, and if it makes it so I can simply post without timing out, I will have to subscribe.
