Forum message retention

Do different forums have different message retentions, as in how long a message stays on the server before diving into the deep dark abyss? A thread I had in the Highly Technical forum was active for a while then it didn't get activity for 3 days and now it's gone already. This seems really short, especially for a forum that doesn't get responses all that fast. Yet in other forums like the hot deals, of all places, I have seen inactive threads there last weeks.

What gives? Different timings for each forum? Is there an archive? Would my viewability of older posts change if I was a subscriber?

Check your "Customize" menu:

I would like to see the last ____ days of threads when I enter a category.

It only appears that the highly technical threads are disappearing faster because there are a lot less of them.

hmm.. never thought I'd ever say that. 😛

too bad I couldn't have seperate preferences for home and work. My work machine loads the forums pretty slow but my home machine is much faster. I'd be happy to view 100 messages per page at home, but my work machine would pass out.
