A side effect is that I open some other site and shift my focus away to doing something else coz the forum issue makes my brain think this is how fast internet works in general. Takes me a few moments to realize, no. I'm on some other site that is paying all their bills!
With hundreds of tabs, it's all a blur.

Bad gateway this morning. I'll go ahead and guess that can't be fixed with a bit of oil.

It was fine earlier for me...now, 30 seconds or so to open a page or post.

Or let's get all the existing members to vote for an alternative forum where we can all mingle and argue like nothing's changed when AT forums are having issues.

I'd say what I really think, but I'd get in to trouble.

But just trying to like your post above took two attempts because of an "Oops" error. I feel like dialup was better at the time than this.

There aren't many independent forums left anymore. Reddit is still an option but eh, Reddit has killed so many forums already, and there's no telling what else they'll do to push revenue in the future.

Discord is a closed ecosystem that sells data to Tencent (and then lies about it).

Could always moved to Tom's. Ha! ha ha. Ha ha ha. Ahem.

Realistically-speaking, for anyone who is not chronically online and/or using the forum as a timewaster, the slowdowns are . . . survivable. I spend less than an hour/day on AT forums and can find ways to participate in the CPU forum threads that interest me in and around the slowdowns. For lifers that love lurking in OT constantly it may be more of a burden.

I recently relaunched one of my old forums... well I combined 4 forums together. It's super dead, but maybe we can make it not dead. https://www.anyf.ca. You don't get gateway errors there.

How much load can it take?

@thunder57

I generally agree with you. The interface isn't nice and it constantly bugs you to use the app, and then 3rd party apps popular with mods etc. have to pay for API access and blahblahblah. It does serve the same basic functions as a forum, even if everything AT would be split into multiple subreddits and that would be funky.

Honestly not sure, but if it actually got to a point where it was very active I would put it on it's own server. Right now that web server runs another one of my sites that is a bit on the heavy side.

Someone seems to have put the go-faster stripes on the forum this evening; I can't remember the last time I saw pages load this quickly!

Starting to drag again here. 10-15 seconds (or longer) to open forums, threads, or post.
