Finished high school, left college for a career in computers. Doing rather well I might add. Now laid off. Frankly I'm tired of computers, and will keep it as a hobby, like the internet, etc.
I don't wish to return to college. I really don't. I know where can you go in life without a degree?
If you felt as I do, what would you do? Take a government test? Try to start your own business?
Please don't suggest back to college. I'm not interested.

since you're so opposed to going to college again (the smartest thing for you to do)
I would suggest going and getting all the certifications you can get (a+, msce (?) , and whatever all those others are.. ) and then just apply for jobs and take whatever looks best.

what kind of stuff do you enjoy doing? do you think you'd have what it takes to be your own own boss? how old are you?

Please reconsider the college thing. If you were an employer, who would you rather hire, a high school graduate with good computer skills but nothing to really show for it or a college graduate with that almighty piece of paper saying they are certified to have completed the coursework?

If you are not going back to college, take a government test. Pay and benefits are good but not great, chance for promotions are good if you're willing to move, opportunity to move and stay with the same organization, etc.
But, you need to figure out why you don't want to finish school and deal with it. In this day and age, especially for you younguns, you will need a degree.

what is this "government test" stuff all about?

btw, i suggest you either go into business or go to college. know that the business route is extremely risky and it is unlikely that you will succeed. as for college, life isn't all about just what you feel like doing, sometimes if you want to get somewhere, you have to do stuff you don't like.

If you want to stay competitive in the career market, college is a must. More people than ever are entering the job market with college degrees and especially since you don't want to be in computers, you have nothing to show for yourself. Go to school.
