Guys,

What is the protocol re waiting for a PM response on a F/S item? I PM'ed two guys Saturday, each w/ a specific item for sale. How long do I wait for a response b4 I post it on the F/S forum?

TIA,

Jeff

Sort of confused, are you the seller and you are waiting to hear if they want the items from you?

If so I always send another PM (after waiting a day or so) and say if I don't hear from you by xxxx then I am putting the item back up for sale.

Same thing if you are trying to buy I guess, just send another message saying you don't want it if you do not hear from them by whatever time.

All PMs have the time on them, so I feel this is the best, most reasonable way to go about these things.

Good luck!

If they have logged in within the past 24 hours then it should indicate no interest and arrogance.

Key words being logged in. Check their profile.

I would say that if they have not logged in within 72 hours, ignore them.

KT, I'm the seller. Each had previously expressed interest in the items and I PM'ed them, teliing them I'd let them know when the items would be available. This past Sat. I indicated to them that the items were available, and to let me know if they were still interested.

Yeah in that case I always send a final PM with an explicit time deadline teling them you will be re-posting the items for sale if you have not heard from them by then.

I am a total CYA type of guy though, I would hate for someone to try and call me out for something as ridculous as them saying "you never told me, blah, blah...I was still interested blah, blah". I've seen it happen. This way they have no leg to stand on.

Cheers,
KT

First person to show up with money gets the items... if no one called dibs. If dibs were called, then that buyer should get 24 hours after signing in to claim the item and pay for it. If 24 hours after the buyer signs in, he doesnt confirm, then move along. If the buyer does not sign in for approx 48 hours, I would PM them again to say I intended to sell to whomever has money in hand.

I would not wait more than 48 hours if I had other interested buyers. Expressing interest is not the same as calling dibs.

48 hours is the longest I would wait for a reply,
24 is normally enough if the guy is really interested.

I only say that, because too many guys ..never... reply.

Why loose out waiting for a deadbeat ???

bendixG15, I agree. I posted the memory stick on the FS forum a few minutes ago. I sold the cpu to someone on AT that was looking for an Athlon 64.

I gotta start doing this. Although I usually don't sell anything worth calling dibs on. :(

Dead3ye, I'm w/ you in that I don't think of the things I'm selling as all that exciting. What I do, is I price to sell. This probably angers some people that can't let their used gear go for less than top dollar. I simply want to get rid of those items, and get a reasonable price (relatively speaking) in the process.

So, I don't give things away, but I price them so they move. And move they did. The 3200+ moved in less than a day, and the PC2100 snagged two buyers w/i minutes of posting. Both seller (me) and buyers are happy.
