You guys should have procmail setup on your accounts! Easy way to filter out these type of things... Of course you probably run an NT shop so...

Anyway, this is more of a bump!

According to @home tech support, they are doing some changes to the servers that will affect most all @home users for the next little while.

Be patient as normal uninterruped service should resume in the next few days.

They credited my account for 10 days as a result. :)

They credited my account for 10 days as a result of the disruptions over the last couple weeks. :)

Heh, This is old news to anyone using @home... email has sucked all year! It's getting to the point where I'm just using my yahoo mail account and completely ignoring my @home spamtrap^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^Hmailbox! :disgust:

BTW, why can't I use my yahoo mail account here?

Cancelling my subscriptions now.

As said before @Home mail sucks. The only reason I use it is that our school mail is about as bad. Oh what I would give for RELIABLE service.

japanimation.com has been a pretty good free email provider for me... Personally I'd go with hotmail though so I could use it with outlook express. Luckily I host my own domain and email so only down when I'm down.

:)

Whew, glad to hear somebody else is having trouble.. just tried to send my mom mail from my linux box and it bounced back as well. But yes, at home is not a hot deal when it comes to reliable email... I get a "tech support" call from the parents about once a month asking why their email is screwed up for one reason or another.

cmv:

That's the only problem with running your own domain and email server...you're depending on your @home connection (and your computer) being up to even receive mail.
I don't have very high expectations for the the @home mail server, but I wont fool myself into thinking I could run a better one when it's dependent on a connection from them. :)

I also would like to know how you can use Outlook with hotmail.
I'd just love a free incoming pop3 that doesn't subscribe me to junkmail.

Mod, unfortunately @home recently moved their email servers which has caused HUGE problems with email. I have talked to them numerous times, and they are working on the problems.

NazzyG: I don't have @home though! I have telocity SDSL (784k up down). Same problem though... I just need to setup a backup mail exchange (mx) and I'll be ready to go. Unfortunately my only backup that is available right now is also on telocity!

In Outlook just setup a new account and set the type as "web mail" or whatever it is instead of POP3 or IMAP (it is at the top of the first or second dialog box).

Mod: Do we have to unsubscribe from threads if we use a COX connection but have a different email account in our Anandtech profile?

---

Thanks for asking. No, you don't. We are asking members whose registered address is @home to unsubscribe. We hope it will only be a short while.

We have to find out why our emails are bouncing and correct the problem. That is also why we asked our members to call @home. They may listen to a few hundred or thousand of you more than one or two of us.

Thanks for the help, everyone. :)

Unsubscribed. If you really want fun try getting your @home mail thru any port thru a physical firewall during the last month!

Heck at least email senders are getting notified when the @home servers barf and don't deliver mail...over the last few weeks it just barfs and didnt even let you know it failed to deliver a message...

ps...this is mentioned in the @home newsgroups...you think anandtech is getting it bad...egroups is getting flooded by the messages from all the mail groups it hosts

thereds...how do you use OUTLOOK EXPRESS with Hotmail?

Open Outlook Express, go to Tools, Accounts, Add, Mail, fill in your current Hotmail account under "I already have an e-mail account that I'd like to use", go to next page, leave alone, go to next page, fill in your password and you're golden :D
