I'm slowly working my way to a quieter rig, looking for a quieter psu. i'm looking for something reasonably priced, high quality and relatively quiet. 500+ W.

i've done some research and come up with the Fortron 500W AX500-A.
Newegg Link

Any input from anyone?

p.s. - right now, i have a 500w aspire psu that came with my case, another reason to replace. :)

I just bought that exact PSU after doing lots of research. It is very quiet and I like the sleeved cables. All the voltage rails measure right where they should be.

Newegg is not competitive on this unit. I bought mine from actbuy.com for about $75 with free freight.

That psu would be the best bang for the buck. Just remember it is not about wattage at all its about the amperage. You could prob even use the forton 450 and it would be 10x bedtter than the currnt 500w aspire psu you have now.

Fortron are good quality, i can't complain about the noise from my 350W one, but if you want really quiet then you want to look at the enermax liberty and seasonic s12 range. The seasonics are about as quiet as it gets, but any of the above will do the job well enough.

The Full-Zoot M12 Seasonics will be coming out soon. Fully sleeved & semi-modular, the
main harness is hard wired.
So buy one and have temporary bragging rights or see if the S12s drop in price.

You can`t go wrong with the Fortron PSU`s. Thats for sure!!

All that matters in the end is that you are happy with whatever you decide on!

Bragging right are just that an illusion.

Even if you were to get an Antec PSU(which I would advise against) as long as YOU are happy eith your purchase whether $20 or $1,000 thats all that matters!!

How'd you manage the free freight? They're wanting $17 & change to ship to me!

I too purchased mine from actbuy for $79 shipped. Apparently that was a limited time special, although it lasted quite a while.

Either way, it's a great PSU. I was very suprised at how quiet it is. I didn't expect it to be loud, but I can't hear it at all.
