Fortron or Antec

so thats 3 for antec... but one thing that the fortron shows is a greater "lifetime" (<100000hrs as oposed to the antec <80000hrs)

does that mean teh fotron does actualy have a greater life? i'm willing to sacrifice power for life... i dont have that intensive a system...
 
Out of those two, the Fortron will be much more efficient and save you a few pennies. It will be cleaner to maintain inside the case and possibly be as quiet as the Antec. If you need SLI, get the Antec. If not SLI, then either one will be good. But if you want something even better, the new Fortron 600W and 700Ws are one of the best psus on the market today.
 
Why don't you just get a Seasonic S12-430?

I read someone else's comment that it should be good for anything other than SLI.

Also read that Seasonic, PC Power and Cooling, and Zippy rates at 50 degrees, while Fortron rate power at 40 degrees, and Antec at 30.

Could you summarize the problems with the S12-430, please?
 
Out of those two, the Fortron definitely.
The S12 500W is a probably a better PSU (quieter, slightly better efficiency), but it's also about $40 more and the cables are not sleeved.
I personally think the Blue Storm is an excellent choice.
 
Easy call, Fortron. Do a search for PSU problems Fortron Vs Antec.

I just bought a Zippy/Emacs HG-2 6400P, 400 watt, 12V @ 30A for $100 to my door.

Most Zippys are rated at 40C, only the highest output models are rated at 50C and they
don't have thermally controlled fans.

The PCP&C Turbos are rated at 50C.

I've never been fond of rebranded products. Antec has been squeezing the life out of their
suppliers and the results of that are starting to show.

The FSP Group are not rebranded PSUs.

fortron, don't worry about antec. I'd most likely get the 450w fortron for $50. What all are you planning on powering?
 
thanks for the advice everyone. im definetely leaning towards the fortron. The seasonic looks nice and everythng, but a little pricey... i dont want to go too expensive...

I have the following-

Epox 9NPA+ Ultra
Seagate 250gb Sata150
Nec DVD burner
Gigabyte 6600gt
Antec Sonata
Corsair Valueselect 1gb (2x512)
SanDiego 3700+

i plan on almost no ocing... but do paln on eventally getting a 7800gtx and audigy, perhaps some hdds... would the 450w fortron be enouhg for any upgrades? and are ther any other differences in the $50 fortron from the $90 (seems almost too cheap/good? 😀 )

Oh, and with the 430w seasonic... it actully doesnt sound that bad... but like id said before, would either the 450w fortron 430w seasonic or 500w fortron all handel a 7800gtx with a few morr hdds in my system? (epsecially concerned of the 450w fortron)
 
the 450watt FSP unit has dual 18amp 12V rails unless your planing on going GTX SLI or have 5+ hdds you should be fine with that unit, I've used it to power a Dual core 3800+ overclocked, a 256mb 6600, 2x hdds and 2x optical drives and its worked fine. thats pretty similar in power reqs to what you listed

edit: hell my 600 watt S12 only had dual 18amp 12V rails =P

well, considering the price, reviesw, my system and psus, i came to the fortron 450w for the best deal... you just cant beat the $57 doorsetp price...

I've been happy with all my fortrons. They're pretty affordable compared to more popular brands, have a good reputation, yet everyone seems to ignore them or mention them in passing before recommending an antec.
