Fortron 400w or Antec True430

I'm contemplating RMAing my Thermaltake Purepower 420w that has a low 12v, for either a Fortron 400w with the 120mm fan, or an Antec True430. Any thoughts?

I've got a TP430. Had it for about 2 years and it's been perfect. Never had a Fortron but I hear they are strong. Either one should be fine.

How low is your 12V rail? My True430 is at around 11.74V, altough I am not sure how accurate my mobo can measure that.

XP2400 \ 9800np \ 1gig DDR
12.04v
Core is 1.66v
3.3v is at 3.33v ...if you trust MBM. What I see in MBM is usually the same as the BIOS so I don't really think about it.

How are you measuring the voltage? I wouldn't do anything until I checked it with a multimeter, while it's running under load. Just test it at a molex connector.

While running Prime95 its an average of 11.74 on the 12v rail with low of 11.67 and a high of 11.86 according to MBM5. I havent yet measured it with a multimeter, i've yet to get my hands on one.

I have an Antec TP 430. MBM show 11.74 or something like that. When I use a VOM, it show 12.01. I'll trust the VOM.

Just out of curiosity, what runs off the 12volt line? fans and drives? anything on the mobo?

i thought 12v was the mobo / cpu and any onboard devices that suck juice

5v was drives and fans

its both... mobo is a big user of 3.3v, 5v, and some 12v
fans are 12v
drives (ie harddrive, cdrom, etc) use mostly 12v, and some 5v

I like Fortron better then Antec. (1.) My Fortron is almost silent, the Antec makes noticeable noise and (2.) it has much more stable voltage on all the rails, especially 12v.

All my Fortron's run closer to spec than the Antec's I've used.
In fact my 300w Fortron with 120mm fan is not only quieter but it performs better than the 380w Antec that came with my Sonata.

I have two Antec cases and the PSU noise is noticeable though not noisy, but my Fortron 300w with 120mm fan is nice and very quiet.

I liked my PurePower 420W so much that I pitched in with my dad to get him a 480W PurePower.... no problems for me or him.

I'd imagine both are OEM from the same manufacturer... which means both are excellent PSUs.

The sensors on motherboards tend to be inaccurate a lot of the time. Mine always reads 3.3 = 3.42v. I tested it using one of those handy PSU load testers, and it reads 3.30 on my Fluke meter. I've got an Antec Truepower 330.

I would say go with the Antec. I have my True Power 430 running for over 2 years with no problems.

buleyb,
. Actually Antec doesn't "make" much of anything except pretty cardboard and plastic boxes - they are a marketing company. Their PSUs are generally OEMed from Channel Well, their cases from Casetek, etc. That's why you should generally get better value from a Fortron or an HEC - one less mouth at the money trough.
. As far as I know Fortron and Channel Well aren't the same company.
