Fortissimo III just won't work!

I'm having serious problems with my Fortissimo III sound card. Everything else seems to be running fine, except the sound, which since i built this thing yersterday has caused me no end of trouble.

Setup as follows on an Asus P4PE;
Intel 2.4 (533fsb), 512 PC2700 RAM, Radeon 9700 (non-pro), Hercules Fortissimo III 7.1, WD 80GB HD, DVD, CDRW, Coolermaster IHC-L71 CPU Fan, Antec 430W PSU, and 4 Coolermaster chassis fans, WinXP

It seems to be a simple case of the drivers not installing, although they appear to at first. I run the programme and it goes through it's motions and gets past the main driver ok - it then comes to install the WDM Interface part, and a window pops up saying installation failed and the 'data is invalid'. WHAT??!

This is very strange, and i can't see any reason for it! I'm using the right drivers. I downloaded the small and big sets from the Hercules site, and also have tried the ones that came on the CD. Nothing works!

Is the sound card at fault, my mbd, or even XP itself? I've formatted several times, but it doesn't help. As i say, everything else is working just fine!

I'm really stumped on this, and it's driving me crazy! Please help!

hi,
i'm running the fortissimo lll on an asus p4pe without any probs but it's on w2ksp3.
did you disable the onboard sound in the bios?
can you download the drivers again? perhaps a bad download?
do the downloaded drivers and the ones on the cd give the same error?
are there any problems shown in the event viewer?

good luck

Tried EVERYTHING mentioned above. Swapped PCI slots as suggested, and everything else i can think of! If there's something i may not have tried I'm open to suggestions...

Same error everytime - no matter what drivers i use. They can't be bad though - 3 different versions!?

Nothing i can see in event viewer which could explain this. Could it be XP itself which is the problem. It has to be either that or the card!?

It's ridiculous! I'll have to call Hercules tech support and see what they have to say about this. I sure am stumped, as everyone else appears to be!!

try uncompressing the install exe manually using winrar/winzip so you can see the drivers directory. then boot up in safe mode, go to devices list and where the drivers are supposedly installed and then manually install the drivers. this should work.

OK, figured out how to start in safe mode. No luck though. For some reason, it won't let me even run the driver install programme! It says an internet detected, and i must disable this before proceeeding. Thing is, i don't even have a modem connected! Nevermind a net connection! Is there something special i need to disable! Very strange!

On a separate thing, i also tried installing SP1, which wasn't before. Didn't help though.

The Fortissimo III update drivers were a b!tch to install.
I had no probs installing ones that came with it on the CD.

I think Hercules has a prog you can run before trying to install, that will basically wipe out whatever it is in their drivers that are preventing you from installing.

look on the forums at hercules.com.. the Answer should be in there.
