all the sudden my forte agent program says its full with the msg: 0000003fd.dat is full and it wont work properly anymore. I go in the agent folder and this 0000003fd.dat is a whopping 2 gb in size taken a big chuck of my drive space.

what needs to be done to get this file working and gimme back those 2 gbs i now lost?

no the drive is now full of course.. but the reason for this post is to find out if anyone knows how to make the headers not get stored on the drive in the first place

Go to Group - DeFault Properties, select the Receive Files tab, and make sure the box that says "After saving an attachment, remove it from the message" is checked.

Also, you should be able to delete, the *.DAT file manually.

i used to get that all the time. back when each group (such as alt.binaries.vcd) only had a 2gb limit. you need to delete as much headers, but mostly bodies (its the bodies that can take up the most amount of space). when you do that, then compact databases (file-->compact databases). if you upgrade to their lastest version, they have up'd the limit.
