I'd never really recognized how great a movie this was but after just watching it on HBO for the first time in like 5 years I really think its good. I was in Jr. High when it came out so the only appreciation I got out of it was repeating the millions of lines from it in school.

I agree. That's all I've got to say about that....

It's been a long time since I've seen it, too. I need to rent it or buy it or something and watch it again.

You know what rocked about the movie?

The previews were so secretive. They barely revealed what the movie was about. Definitely surprised me when I saw it at the theaters.

I am always totally amazed at the MASTERFUL use of the song "Freebird" (seriously) in that movie.

You know, until very recently I never caught that when he said "I'm not a smart man, but I know what love is." to Jenny after she turned down his proposal at his house, he was referring back to her telling him that he didn't understand what love was right before he went to Vietnam, where he "rescued" her from the strip joint and they were talking on the bridge. That was like a huge revelation for me! To think, I worked in a theatre at the time the movie came out and I own it on VHS and DVD! Anyway, yes, awesome movie in every way. Anyone else here have those days where you just "feel like runnang"?

The part where he's standing over Jenny's grave talking to her had me the closest to tears I've ever been while watching a movie. Just an awesome movie.

I don't know, the part where he realizes it's his son and then asks her if he's "like me...or is he...?" is pretty heart rending too in my opinion. It's like the guy has been oblivious to his shortcomings all along, but then realizes them all in that one moment, wondering if his son will be "gumpish" like him.

Yeah, don't make me feel like a larger asshat than I already do. Thanks.... :)

PS-don't make me feel like "runnang" by beating me down on this issue either

The series of books about Forrest Gump will leave you laughing and screaming WTF all at the same time. Tom Hanks was masterful and the book was rewritten well to fit into a movie script.
