Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone faced criticism from politicians and Jewish groups Saturday after being quoted as saying that Adolf Hitler "got things done."

"In a lot of ways, terrible to say this I suppose, but apart from the fact that Hitler got taken away and persuaded to do things that I have no idea whether he wanted to do or not, he was in the way that he could command a lot of people, able to get things done," Ecclestone was quoted as saying.

Ecclestone also said the West had been wrong to depose Iraq's Saddam Hussein, saying: "He was the only one who could control that country."

Ecclestone, who owns F1's commercial rights, is no stranger to controversial remarks. He once said women should dress in white "like all other domestic appliances."

In The Times interview, Ecclestone said that had been a joke, adding: "I would love to have a good lady race driver and preferably black and Jewish, too, but they might take maternity leave."

I don't know who this guy is but you'd think that after all the people that have failed to reference Hitler in any good way, the lesson would have been learned.

Well, in all fairness, Hitler was quite efficient at getting things done. Just not good things.

Hitler did manage to switch all of the continental europe to left hand drive overnight. Something about threatening to shoot people driving on the wrong side.

I like him. He's right. Hitler was a great leader, even if his goals were totally fucked up.

Hitler was one of the greatest leaders in the history of the world.

Unfortunately he led people down an immoral evil path.

While that's unfortunate of course, its a testimony to how powerful his leadership actually was.

I came into this thread thinking that he might have said that, which would be okay...but

the fact that Hitler got taken away and persuaded to do things that I have no idea whether he wanted to do or not, he was in the way that he could command a lot of people, able to get things done

Hitler never got taken away, he was no puppet, and he didn't come to power and get persuaded to do these things. He held all these beliefs shortly after the end of WWI and he wrote a book saying exactly what he wanted to do seven years before he even got into power, and like 17 years before the "final solution".

Anyone with even the most rudimentary understanding of the man knows that Hitler was totally clear on what he wanted to do.

"Got things done" was not all that incorrect, but the rest of those quotes are /facepalm material.
