Formula One in HD, finally!

http://www.formula1.com/news/headlines/2011/1/11634.html

Formula One fans can look forward to watching television coverage in High Definition this year after Formula One Management announced that all broadcasters will receive an HD feed for 2011.

From the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix in March, coverage of all 20 rounds - including all practice sessions and support events - will be originated in HD, with the international feed then offered throughout the world at a data rate of 42 Megabits/second (MPEG-2).

Now if they would just put out a Broadcast Schedule so we can find out when and where to watch it this year. I expect most to be on Speed TV

Depends on where the race is but most of the European races start at 4:30AM on the west coast. You can get the schedule from F1.com.

First race of 2011 is Bahrain and it is the weekend of March 11,12,13th.

I looked at F1.com .. all I could find was the race Names and Dates
But nothing that said When or What Channel the TV Air Times are to be.

OK that converts to 8AM Eastern US time .. prerace should be at 07:30AM Eastern so that is when I need to be up or set a recorder. And some races will be on odd times, due to where they are in the world (like the Japan race) .. Since I have the dates, I can check the local TV listings a few days before for the channel and actual air times.

I hope its better than the crappy HD feed Fox had a year or two back when they covered Monaco (I think it was Monaco, maybe it was another one). 4:3 and the quality was...not very good (sharper than SD, but had a bunch of issues constantly). So, not even muting it, wishing they had the Speed crew doing it, could save it.

The response given by 9 time world champion Valentino Rossi when asked about the difference between MotoGP and F1...

Valentino Rossi said:
“All the people follow the F1 races - but more than half are asleep!”

click on a race and times are on the right. as the events approach, there will be a countdown with "click here for local time". the countdown will also be displayed on the main page.

4 races will be on fox, the rest on speed. no schedule yet, but expect them to be in the middle of the season and include monaco and montreal.

i've seen 2007 and 2008 seasons on itv, wasn't as bad as many say. try watching speed if you want something to complain about.

Yeah, ITV was good, and most of the team came over to BBC, but adverts.... None on BBC FTW!

I watched a race on Speed in Nov 2009 when I was in the Caribbean on a private island (THAT is commitment to a sport!). Oh my word what crap!! That 'Windsor' guy needs shooting in the mouth so he can't speak ever again. At one point they all went off topic about some guys birthday at the weekend, rather than the action. I wanted to punch them through the TV.

bwahahahahahaa!!!!

It's not that crazy. We have Hulu and other similar sites already. I would even pay a reasonable to have the SpeedTV stream. It just seems crazy to have to pay for so many channels that I don't use. My cable TV bill is about $100 a month for all HD channels + HBO and their proprietary DVR.

If I could pay a couple of dollars a race and download it from some online store, I would be fine with that. Then we would need the same thing for college football and I would be done with the cable bill.
