"Every Thursday I do a 24 hour prayer and fasting day," Gelsinger wrote on X on Sunday morning. "This week I'd invite you to join me in praying and fasting for the 100K Intel employees as they navigate this difficult period. Intel and its team is of seminal importance to the future of the industry and US."

If someone could figure out how to get us out of this bizarro parallel universe sooner rather than later, I'd appreciate it.

I'm not really seeing the problem here? I mean I'm not religious and I wouldn't pray but asking employees to think about and care about each other doesn't seem bad.

It seems like an empty, vacuous statement but as those go it is inoffensive to me at least.

There's nothing offensive about it (OP news article), but seeing a guy who was (until very recently) very near the top of the world tech tree (ignoring Intel's recent-ish strategic errors for a moment) go all god-botherer is a bit weird. The tech industry doesn't typically attract the deeply religious since science is (or ought to be) the closest thing they have to god, so for me this would be similar to if "A Christmas Carol" played out in real life to say Donald Trump or Vladimir Putin.

It also reminds me of David Bowie - 'Five Years' wrt this particular line:

"A cop knelt and kissed the feet of a priest..."

Yeah, don't fast/pray if you don't want to.

There he goes again, throwing a bucket of cold reason on somebody’s irrationally triggered passion.

Reminds me of something I heard years ago when Lebanon exploded in civil war. Someone told the meddling America ambassador, I think, to “go home and let us kill each other in peace”.

I got so scared as a child that I was going to hell for being such a selfish uncaring person, so unlike Jesus, that I knew was already back then marked for hell and that I wanted every word about that those dirty bastard gods to be expunged, down to the last tiny traces, from all human conscious awareness. Every time the slightest mention by some fool comes up regarding any god of any kind at all, my asshole puckers up and my stomping boots go on. Please oh please don’t get in my way.

I've known folks who really, really liked where they worked but never met one who turned employment into a religion.
I had a boss who made it into the in house rag newspaper with his story about how he hated vacations. The worst company man I've ever run across in my life.

An odd comment considering the comments leading up to yours. Whatever floats your boat I guess...
Are you calling me odd? I just called fskimo that. I just wanted to join you on a stomping on gods fest, what’s the problem? Every dick move should have two nuts along for the ride, no? I mean, you can’t tell me that people haven’t made a bad joke out of religion.

In my religion, when one door closes another opens and so god opened the door to Intel’s graphic card heaven where all will be saved. Have faith but after you tie your camel first.

Companies and corporations depend on reputation, deserved or created via advertisement, in the hope people will buy from them. If you work for a company like that and have been made to feel worthless as all of us have, it is easy to identify with such a company as a substitute for real self respect. Don't look at me, look at the company that I identify with. See how great, by reflection, I am. I would die for them, as I have died every day deciding I gain more being their faithful slave than any real life or pleasure I might have on a vacation. I am one fucking proud employee. If Mommy and Daddy could see me now. I achieved their dreams for me.

Oh yea, he had issues. Talked about his loser brother and sister back in Pittsburg all the time.

If he's not going to put food where his mouth is, maybe he could put his money there, to express his concern for the welfare of those Intel employees...

i'm probably not expressing it correctly but the gist of it is:

when i see people with power/money try and play themselves off as christian publicly/privatly it brings out the cynic in me, it just rubs me the wrong way, let your actions speak louder than your words?

This is like how Elmo cares about Climate Change and humanity, even though he has no humanity.
