Former U.S. Rep. Melvin Jay Reynolds has been arrested in Zimbabwe on suspicion of possessing pornography and an immigration offence...
Reynolds resigned from his congressional seat in 1995 after he was convicted of 12 counts of statutory rape, obstruction of justice and solicitation of child pornography. While in prison he was also convicted of bank and campaign fraud. He was in jail until his sentence was commuted by President Bill Clinton in Jan. 2001.

At one time Reynolds was considered a rising star in the Democratic party.

A Harvard graduate, Reynolds unseated U.S. Rep. Gus Savage in 1992, two years after a House ethics committee determined that during an official trip to Africa Savage had made improper sexual advances to a female Peace Corps volunteer.

But then Reynolds was convicted in his own sex case and sent to prison in 1995. Later, while still behind bars, he was convicted of fraud for concealing debts to obtain bank loans and diverting money intended for voter registration drives into his election campaign. In 2001, President Bill Clinton commuted the sentence for bank fraud and Reynolds served his remaining time in a halfway house.
...
Reynolds's arrest comes a little more than 14 months after he tried to resurrect his political career, running for the congressional seat vacated by Jesse Jackson Jr., who resigned from office and pleaded guilty to misusing campaign funds on personal items. Jackson is now serving a 2 1/2 year prison term.

Announcing his run in late 2012 Reynolds,.. campaigned with posters that proclaimed "Redemption."

Apparently, neither that campaign theme of redemption nor that 2001 pardon from President Clinton gets much respect in Zimbabwe.

Sad situation. That guy had it all-Harvard grad, Rhodes scholar, good political career and has thrown it all away (apparently twice now). Some people just lack moral fiber-a fault which generally has nothing at all to do with political orientation.

This. Although such persons seem to be quite drawn to politics.

In fairness, we are talking about justice, Zimbabwe-style. None of what he's accused of, at least per that article, would be criminal in the United States. It still doesn't mean it wasn't stupid to do it in Zimbabwe (if he did), but I wouldn't even consider it immoral behavior to take explicit pictures and/or movies of consenting adults.

US Congressman (former) Arrested for Pornography

According to his former aide identified as Sunny, Reynolds was in possession of pornographic material he shot on different occasions while in the company of a model (name supplied) and several girls in his hotel rooms.

“His travel documents were not up to date and he used to bring beautiful women at different times. He employed five of us including a personal assistant and a driver...

Another closely placed source said Reynolds shot more than 100 pornographic videos and a further 2 000 nude pictures while he was in the company of at least 10 women including famous models...

According to American newspapers, Reynolds resigned from a Congress post he held for two years in 1995, ... after he was convicted of statutory rape, bank fraud, obstruction of justice and having sex with a 16-year-old campaign volunteer...

He served all of his first sentence, and served 42 months in prison for the later charges before former US president Bill Clinton commuted the sentence for bank fraud in 2001.
Its not for me to judge the morality of this former congressman's actions.

Though, it does seem imprudent to make a hundred porn videos in a foreign country while your visa is expired particularly if you have already been convicted of statutory rape in your home country.

Then again, the former Congressman clearly is a person that has political clout. After all, he has already received one Presidential Pardon.
Surprises me that the former Congressman's friends at the State Department couldn't make this go away...

For those who suffer powerfully repressed emotional pain, sex is an outlet that brings momentary relief. The intensity of the repression leads to obsessional craving for release. Sexual gratification can become an addiction and a mental illness, as well as development of a cunningness to hide that fact from others. Lust is an unfulfillable and bottomless emotional need based on a feeling of lack. Where self respect and self satisfaction with oneself should exist there is self hate instead.
