It's up to $1 trillion now huh?
Current projections are. Do you think the war will be free from here on out?
ahhh projections... I see... well today after 3 years the war in Iraq is up to about 300 billion, so these projections are based on another 5+ years over there?

My projection, Osama dies tomorrow, US troops come home by Christmas, and world peace breaks out by New Years day... about as valid as your $1 trillion comment.

I'll bet you one of those blind bloggers who laughed at Kerry when he estimated the Iraq fiasco would cost us $400 billion. aren't ya :D

Scheuer is just trying to get people in government to be held accountable for their mistakes. It's a serious issue with him, one (a professional and IMO rather brilliant analyst) has identified as an extreme problem in government. Remember, this was the same guy who pro-Republican partisans were accusing of doing a pre-election hit-job on Bush because of his book, "Imperial Hubris."

The stuff he's saying about Clinton now he said then as well.

The very pathetic and stupid state of affairs seems to simply be that the majority of you will argue back and forth incessantly attempting to minimize the wrong-doings of those you identify to be on "your team" (as if this were a football game) while simultaneously attempting to minimize the accomplishments of the "other team."

Rather than simply looking at the issue at hand, analyzing it objectively and reasonably dispassionately, and proceeding forth.

Both groups in the Clinton admin and the Bush admin need to be held accountable for their failures and moments of cowardice.

All of you are enablers of their wrongdoing due to your inability to rationally approach these issues.

In my opinion, a committed partisan has no reasonable difference in culpability for the wrongdoings of the political groups and leaders to whom they continually provide material support and the means for power. This is because they continually fail to hold those leaders accountable in their bottom-up political Party organization through the witholding of those means to continued power. Rather, they concern themselves with the percieved wrongdoings the "Other Group", the actions of whom they cannot affect given that they are not the ones to whom that group depends upon for power. Instead, they simply increase the funding and material support and comfort to their own Party. When the only two groups holding power both have such foolish yet unwavering supporters, it is little wonder that such corruption and dissolution is rife throughout. Partisans have only themselves to blame. Though it is not difficult to predict where they will wrongly place any blame that becomes apparent to them.

However, I can't really blame him, nobody could've predicted something like 9/11 happening and two wars basically resulting from it. I think had Clinton known what would've happened, he would've tried harder. Hindsight is 20/20...and Clinton had his reasons, however trifle they seem now, but in the pre-9/11 world they held more weight.

I could've sworn that Rice was given a report titled something along the lines of "AL Qaeida using planes to smash into buildings." Anyone (conjur) have a link for the lazy?
The 2001 Presidential daily brief that you are talking about is nearly WORD for WORD the exact same as a 1998 brief that Bill Clinton got. It seems that both Presidents were told about that idea and then told that the FBI has x number of investigations going on and decided that the FBI and CIA were on top of things and let it go at that.
August 2001 brief
December 4 1998 PDB (second link is a anti-Clinton blog, but it posts a copy of the 1998 PDF in a very easy to read manner, if I had a better source I would have posted it)
1998-"1. Reporting [-] suggests Bin Ladin and his allies are preparing for attacks in the US, including an aircraft hijacking to obtain the release of Shaykh 'Umar 'Abd al-Rahman, Ramzi Yousef, and Muhammad Sadiq 'Awda."

2001-"Bin Ladin Determined To Strike in US

Clandestine, foreign government, and media reports indicate Bin Ladin since 1997 has wanted to conduct terrorist attacks in the US. Bin Ladin implied in US television interviews in 1997 and 1998 that his followers would follow the example of World Trade Center bomber Ramzi Yousef and ?bring the fighting to America.?

The truth is that EVERYONE failed prior to 9-11.

Point out facts is the "lowest level of debate"??

Obviously some people on here don't know the FACTS.
Almost every one of my posts has a link to back up what I am saying, or is in regards to an earlier post with a link.

Get over the personal attacks and try to refute me with valid arguements backed up with FACTS to support your point of view.
