How many people work for $15 or less today? A great many more than your argument suggests.

It's wrong to focus the argument on how many make min wage today, as it entirely misses the point.

So, read a story about a guy who can't live on $7.25. Extrapolate the results to conclude it is impossible to live on $15.

What about this doesn't make sense?D:

Most of them get State food benefits and other state assistance too. So we are subsidizing them.

Absolutely. So this guy's example of living on min wage is disingenuous. He received min wage. But none of the state aid many of these people qualify for which help them make ends meet. In MN I know people who have been on food stamps. They typically received about 200 dollars per child per month. There is also rental and car benefits along with welfare they can qualify for while working. I don't know how much Ohio provides compared to MN. I suspect less but I am sure they have some programs.

One at a time, dear. You make one argument, I counter it. You make another, I counter it in a post later.

Your argument of "Not having a bike" is moot. The point was to list multiple other means of travel since the governor is complaining about having to walk. Craigslist a bike for $10. It's amazing what you can get when you try. Just like a car, you can get a beat up car for $1000. You fact that people deem it worthy to take out a $25k loan to buy a brand new Ford Mustang/(Insert any cliche car) instead of a beat up car isn't our responsibility.

My car will never leave my hands until the wheels fall off. Ask any finance forum, people making bad choices in life isn't something we can be held accountable for. You also keep proclaiming as if minimum wage workers have nothing. As if they dropped to the earth last night naked in a field.

Buddy.. I am not your dear..

The point is there are many variables, varying circumstances in peoples lives especially when it comes to being in poverty. Not everyone can find a bike or afford a bike for 10 dollars, let alone find one for 10 dollars (just because you did doesn't mean someone else will) , as this Gov. points out, when he got sick, that if he hadn't already had a 5 dollar bottle of cold medicine when he caught a cold he would have blown his budget and not had enough money to get cold medicine. If your living on the edge like that you can't afford to buy such luxuries as a bike sometimes not even basic over the counter medicine.

You also have many other circumstances as in being elderly, or disabled, or many other factors where these things simply are not practical.

Everyone is criticizing and they are not in the shoes of these people. As to the food benefits and subsidies, I think this Gov. proves why it is so important that we do not slash funds for the poor on benefits, and why we should not take away food assistance. If he isn't making it on min. wage without food assistance then the poor certainly will not either if we continue slashing and knocking people off government assistance.

You are missing the point. Minimum wage is never meant to be a self supporting wage. It is a stepping stone for low skill workers to move up. It is a bridge while they obtain real skills. If you choose to not advance and only be worth minimum wage, then you need to get a second job and work 60-80 hours a week if you want to have a "living" wage. Whatever that means.

Excellent point! How do we get minimum wage employers to have more step up positions, how do we develop these skills while so many are still unemployed?

So every adult on minimum wage should be collecting state benefits? Isn't it smarter to adjust minimum wage to inflation every few years?

Should be collecting? I don't know. But many do so like I said it is disingenuous to go out and claim it is impossible to make ends meet on min wage while neglecting aid programs.

I have been in the shoes and walked the walk. I found ways to make my life better. All you can do is make excuses why people can't.

Fun fact:

http://livingwage.mit.edu/places/3904918000

According to the living wage calculator for Columbus Ohio a living wage is only 8.15.

So where exactly is the justification for a 10.10 minimum wage?

Fun fact 2: Typical hourly wage for Food Preparation and Serving Related in Columbus $8.67

So why was the governor trying to live off a lower wage than what the most menial jobs already pay?

Why is an employer responsible for improving your lot in life? You find a way to improve your skills and then you will find that those step up positions become more available.

Mass immigration legal and illegal as a policy and higher wages are opposing ideologies. You cant have your votes and higher wages at the same time. Unfortunately either the cultural marxists don't understand this contradiction, or they do and actual understand what they are doing and have ulterior motives Only history will tell.

Minimum wage was never designed to sustain a person/family for the rest of their lives. It is a stepping stone at best so that said person can better himself and move up into higher paying jobs as time moves on and their knowledge increases.

If you are still earning minimum wage at 40+ then I would dare say that you probably don't have any skills that are in any kind of demand. Why should we pay you more if you have no appreciable skill set? Just because?? Businesses aren't charities. The moment they begin acting like them are the moment they go out of business.

He said he had $77 for the week so I'm guessing he took out housing first? cause at 7.25 federal minimum he'd have 290 less tax for the week.
Its not a great life however, look at what a worker in Mexico or China would have to do its still living pretty good.

That is a load of bull and an old outdated idea. The majority of adults now a days are working at a minimum wage income. This is not a "stepping stone" as you put it, but a way of life for millions who are trying to live and keep from being out on the streets. Many families are finding they have to work more than one min wage job just to make enough to barely get by. You truly do live with your head in the sand or in your little bubble. You need to get out in the world and get to know your fellow American's who are having to live in the real world.
Seriously? The majority of adults make minimum wage? Are you an idiot?

Hammer meet nail.

I worked minimum wage for 9 months at 18 yrs old. I had applicable skills that brought be out of that job into a new position and i have since continued to move up the ladder. There still people out there doing the same job they were seven years ago, not my fault they have not bettered their position.

Stop coddling the foolish, you're only decreasing incentive to do something with their lives and increasing likelihood of laziness and government dependence.

Wednesday morning, I had a meeting about a mile from my apartment, but in the opposite direction of my office. I would normally take a cab, but this time, I took off my jacket and walked the mile in 90-degree heat, then walked back almost 2 miles to my office. Walking made me late to my meeting, but a minimum wage budget doesn’t allow for extra transportation costs, making it my only option.
LMFAO!!!

This dimwit doesn't even seem to understand this is what intelligent people would refer to as EXERCISE. Not even much of it at that.

No wonder we're a nation full of fat, lazy, dumb people who will mostly drop dead at age 50.

Walking 3 whole miles (OH THE HARDSHIP!) something anyone with any sense should do anyway, is now a terrible hardship.

Get stuffed with this Pity Party bullshit.

He also was apparently too dumb to calculate how long it would take for him to walk 1 mile so he could reach his morning meeting on time. He also then lacked the sense not to complain about his own stupidity.

Democrats should be embarrassed for electing such an idiot.

Fail, the purpose of min wage is to guarantee a living wage.
Where is such defined by federal law?
It has never been such to support more than one person with the bare essentials (if that) for the past 50 years.
