My xbox died, and I'm going to shoot it with a shot gun tomorrow. So I decided to rip it open and remove the harddrive. I'm having trouble formatting it though. I put it on my IDE chain as a master, and put an XP cd into the CD-Rom drive and booted from the CD-rom drive. But it won't let me format the disk :( I get a dos prompt, but its not really a prompt, just lets me read the contents of the cd-rom drive.... I can't change drives or do a chkdisk or anything...

That is how you format a drive correct?!

Anybody done this before? Heh, not even sure if you can... Want to salvage somethign from this POS!

Thanks greatly for any input...

The stock hard drive that comes in a Xbox is locked. You have to use the Xbox it came installed in to unlock it, which in your case means your out of luck.

Thanks alot Boogak, just to let everyone know, you can't format an Xbox HD once you have no Xbox! Microsoft is "teh ghey." Guess I'll put the HD back into the Xbox and shoot holes in it. Got 2 boxes of shotgun rounds sittin right here..
