formatting with FAT32 over 32GB partition?

I just installed my ibm 60gb 60gxp in my new computer and tried to make 2 partitions, a 20gig and a 40gig. The 20gig is the c: drive and that is where win2k is at. I used fat32 for that partition and wanted to do the same for the 40gig but for some reason it wouldn't let me do it. I was looking through the help files and came across a note saying that "we recommend using NTFS for partitions over 32GB". Anyone know why this limitation exists? I thought FAT32 could support many terabytes.

MS is insisting that you use NTFS for such a large drive (>32GB). "Insisting" is a dubious word in this situation too. It's more like forcing you to use NTFS. If you really really want to use FAT32, you gotta use fdisk from Win9X.

use fdisk on a win98 bootdisk and format the drive in dos, win2k will recognize the drive fully, but yes, its MS's blunt way of forcing you into their system.

I know I've done it before, but not recently
