Formatting problem

I was attempting to do a quick format on an old hard drive to install Windows XP, and it got through the setup just fine. The problem is, when it gets to the part where it needs to reboot the system to continue, when it reboots, it starts the setup all over again. It never makes it to the next step. I tried this 4 times on two different drives. The disc looks alright, but I don't have a backup disc.
Anyone encounter this problem before?
Thanks!

I'm assuming that for install, you have your system set to boot from CD first; when it gets to the actual reboot after initial setup, have you tried going into BIOS and setting the boot order back to your HDD first? If that doesn't make a difference, during the reboot, go into BIOS and set your PnP OS setting to Yes.
