Easiest way.

1. d/l the disk utility from Maxtor site, and make it into floopy
2. install HD.
3. start PC w/ that floopy.
4. that's it...(also you can choose how you want to partition)
5. boot from your Win CD, and install.

if it is retail, it does come w/ boot disk.
using the boot disk to parition.

AFTER THAT:

1. Go into your bios.
2. simply change your boot sequence: CDROM first. or CD-ROM, C, A. then SAVE.
3. have your winCD in your CDROM.
4. take out that maxtor boot disk.
5. Restart.
6. WAIT :)

You don't have to fdisk it. The bootdisk that came with the HDD will do it for you. There's also a selection if you want to partitioned it.

DO NOT use the cheezy maxblast overlay software (did maxtor fix the problem of their setup floppy maxblasing everything?)

Boot from the 98 CD and fdisk from that

Yep, the Maxblast overlays your bios. I wouldn't use it. WD doesn't muck up your bios, BTW.

1. make boot disk (make sure your boot disk has CDROM support)
2. install hard drive
3. boot from disk
4. fdisk (remove, change partitions)
5. install from CD
