Formatting new drive

Just built my new rig and installed windows on my raptor hard drive. I then went to setup the new hard drive in disk management. Well, I was a dumbass and forgot to click "quick format" so I cancel the format and delete the partition to redo the stuff again. Well now when I have gone through and decided to let it do the regular format just to be on the safe side, it has been formatting for over 4 or 5 hours and has not shown any progress at all. It is a western digital 750gb hard drive. Is this a normal time or is something going on? It just says the drive is formatting under disk management and does not give me any progress report or anything like that. Thanks in advance.

That's the reason they have Quick Format available. If nothing is on the drive you can restart the process without problems.

Well I ended up canceling the format because it would never tell me what the progress was or anything like that. And I think when my computer went into sleep it stopped it. So I went into My Computer and did a "quick format" from there. Formatted fine; everything seems to be working. It didn't hurt the drive or anything when I cancel the format and stuff like that does it? I shouldn't be worried about it having bad sectors should I?

so is this one of those Vista things where it is still kind of messing up? I've been with OSX for almost a year so switching to Vista and dealing with this stuff is annoying. I still have the macbook pro though.
