Actually, Quark is getting pushed aside by Adobe InDesign 🙂
I've used just about all of 'em, and I definitely like InDesign the best.

Not in the publishing industry. Maybe you like it, but I've yet to see a publishing company around here that is using InDesign over Quark. Quark is still king.Originally posted by: Smaulz Actually, Quark is getting pushed aside by Adobe InDesign 🙂 I've used just about all of 'em, and I definitely like InDesign the best.

Every pre-press shop around here has already made the switch to InDesign, and I've seen articles in a few industry magazines indicating an overall shift to InDesign following the release of version 2.

Er ok. Well I worked in the publishing industry for 4 years (I've since moved into internet design and development) and my mom still own a publishing company here in Nashville (for 25 years). Nashville is the largest publishing city in the world (based on sheer volume because music, books & magazines, and bibles). All the companies that I deal with uses Quark Xpress and It is considered the standard layout program. Things might be different in Nebraska, but not here.
LOL That's cool, man... just give it time. I'm not saying Quark is a bad program or anything. I'm just saying that InDesign is now a viable competitor, and is rapidly taking over Quarks business. I'm sure it'll be a long while before everyone makes the move, and I'm also sure that not everyone will make the move. But it's just like any other business, gotta role with the changes. A good portion of the industry has been looking for an alternative to Quark for a long time, and now that InDesign is finally a stable, working product, they've got one.

I'd definitely have to agree that it's currently far and away Quark Xpress. Yes, I've heard a lot of people like and are impressed with InDesign, but every printing shop we've dealt with (I work at an ad agency and we deal with shops from several states) still prefer Quark as their standard.

Yeah, you're right... CURRENTLY... but like I said before, give it time...

I think we were going with this comment... "Every pre-press shop around here has already made the switch to InDesign" You make it sound like some industry wide change.
Dude, I'm not attacking you or your choice of software. Around here, InDesign is already the choice that many of the shops have gone with. Industry publications have already stated that the industry is shifting towards using InDesign over Quark. This isn't a personal affront to you, your business, your experience, or anything else. I'm merely restating what has been said by the people who run the publishing industry. Take it up with them.

No one said you were attacking the software or us? All I was saying is that here in Nashville the choice is still Quark. I think you're taking this too personally 😀 I just watch my industry because Nashville is HUGE in publishing. Personally I'd believe this industry than Nebraska, but whatever floats your boat. I don't read publishing magazines, I just go by what companies ask for when they ask for a file format and what programs they use.
